Traditional FUNERAL SERVICES

Traditional funeral ceremonies serve to provide comfort in tradition, often involving one's religious customs. Praying for the deceased and their survivors can offer necessary healing throughout the grief processes. Ceremonies such as these can be performed at a location of your choosing or our facilities.  We work closely with all local religious affiliations and provide the necessary assistance to carry out the religious customs of choice. Commonly selected options are listed below.

Visitation or viewing, public or private, can be held before the funeral service. This can be the day before services, an evening before services, or immediately prior to the funeral.  Following the funeral service two options are available:

     A. Cremation followed by permanent placement of the urn.

     B. Casketed burial immediately following in a cemetery.

Private Identification of the deceased can be performed at our funeral home for fewer than ten immediate family members shortly after passing occurs. Cremation is scheduled at our privately owned crematory and cremated remains placed into an urn of choice.  We encourage you to select a determined amount of time to host a memorial gathering before holding a memorial service. Permanent memorialization, in the ground or a columbarium niche, of the urn can occur after cremation services have concluded.

Celebration of LIfe services

A Celebration of Life Ceremonies have become popular in modern society.  They are created as a casual alternative to traditional funeral service.  Using our location or a location of choosing, we create a one of a kind tribute to a life lived. Through music, memorabilia, food and fellowship, and storytelling, we work with family and communities to create an experience to showcase a life lived. We’re here to listen to your concerns, share our experience, and help you to arrive at an event that will celebrate the unique life of the one you love." Commonly selected options are listed below.

Utilizing memorabilia, photos, and music from your loved one, we can showcase special moments by highlighting their achievements, joyous moments in life, hobbies, passions, and personality. Whether your loved one's casketed or cremated remains are present or a tasteful display of photos and custom floral arrangements are the focal point, we are experts in creating casual gatherings that exude a life lived with purpose. Incorporating food and beverage into the gathering can enhance a Celebration of Life. A Tribute Specialist/Celebrant can oversee a highly personalized service which weaves in Shared Memories and eulogies from family and friends.

Our staff will transform our facility with a casual atmosphere to create a gathering where family and friends can gather comfortably at cocktail and seated tables to share in the memories of the one they love.  Full reception menus are available offering food and beverage selections. Often, at more casual gatherings the casketed remains are not to be present at the Celebration of Life. When this is the case, a Private Identification of the deceased can be performed at our facility for less than 10 immediate family members shortly after passing occurs. Cremation is scheduled at our privately owned crematory and cremated remains placed into an urn of choice.

A green burial ensures the burial site remains as natural as possible in all respects. Interment of the body can be done in a bio-degradable casket or burial shroud. Traditional embalming chemicals, caskets, and outer burial containers are avoided entirely in natural burial. The simplicity of a green burial is in tune with nature and need not be expensive.

Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam is the only funeral home in Maryland to offer an all inclusive style to true natural burial.  We offer this at two of our privately owned cemeteries: Bestgate Memorial Park - Annapolis, MD  and Woodlawn Memorial Park - Easton, MD

If green burial is in keeping with your personal values, please contact us to assist you in making this a reality for you or for a loved one. Please call us at (410) 758-1151 to speak with a funeral professional about your decision to “go green.” We also invite you to visit the Maryland Green Burial website to learn more.

Alternative Basic burial & cremation services

Very few families today choose to do nothing upon the death of their loved one.  Understanding that cost or location of the deceased may be a consideration when forced to choose an alternative basic service, we provide minimal services for both cremation and burial.

Learn more about our services and prices by downloading our educational Services and Pricing guide.

Immediate burial provides an alternative basic service of foregoing any visitation, funeral service or ceremony. It is immediate transport to a cemetery of choosing only a few days after the passing has occurred.  A casket and an outer enclosure will need to be selected and the placement of the casketed remains will be done at the convenience of the funeral home and/or cemetery.

Immediate cremation provides an alternative basic service of not performing any visitation, gathering, memorial or remembrance of any kind. It is transport to our privately owned crematory which occurs a few days after the passing has occurred.  Cremation is performed with our constant oversight and the cremated remains are returned or mailed to the person/place of choice.

You Can Never Go Back and Do it Over

Some say it’s harsh to remind you of this, but we know we must. We want you to honor your loved one in a way that allows you to look back, years from now, and be thankful that you did the best you could to honor their life. Creating a ceremony that calls together the hearts and minds of all who loved them is a gift to everyone involved.
