William G. Smith Jr.

William Gibbons Smith, Jr., passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017. Bill was born on October 24, 1924, in Easton, MD to William G. Smith, Sr. and Olivia Lowman Smith. Bill graduated from Easton High School in June of 1941. Bill attended First Baptist Church of Easton all of his life. He enjoyed telling people he had been there since his mother enrolled him in “Cradle Roll” at six weeks old. He became a member when accepting the Lord at the age of twelve. After being drafted in the U.S. Army, he served as a medical aid on a European tour from 1943-1946. Later, he was a member of the Maryland State Guard, Civil Air Patrol, and the Maryland Defense Force. He retired from the Defense Force in 2009 as First Sergeant. Bill was employed by his father in the plumbing business. When his father passed away in 1963, he took over the business until he retired in 1989. His main hobby was listening to and playing country music. He played rhythm guitar and bass for Mel Price and the Santa Fe Rangers. They made several tours entertaining service men. Bill joined the Easton Volunteer Fire Department in July, 1965, eventually becoming a Life Member. On June 14, 1973, he married L. Elaine Larmore. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; daughter, Donna Glime (Jack); son, Roger Smith (Tina); grandchildren, Tony Glime, Leslie Krackow, Logan Kirby and Ben Smith; five great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Larry Kenton. Also surviving are stepchildren, Deborah Skipper (Kevin), Bridget Larmore (friend, Bill Murray), Wendy Lankford (Gorman, “Jr.”), Lonnie Larmore (Pam); step grandchildren, Cheryl Willis, whom Elaine and Bill raised, Bobbi Jo Haddaway, Cindy Faulkner, Jami Robinson, Jeff Lankford, David Larmore and Katie Leneski; eight step great-grandchildren; and three step great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his granddaughter, Jenapher L. Glime; sister, Olive Kenton; and nephew, Floyd Kenton. Services will be held on Monday, January 30, 2017, at 11:00 AM, at First Baptist Church, 115 Idlewild Avenue, Easton, MD. Family will receive friends one hour prior. Burial will take place at Spring Hill Cemetery following services. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to Talbot Hospice, 586 Cynwood Drive in Easton, Easton Volunteer Fire Department, 315 Aurora Park Drive in Easton or First Baptist Church 115 Idlewild Avenue, Easton, Maryland 21601.
