Rogers "Mike" Firth

Rogers “Mike” Firth of Trappe, Maryland passed away on November 7, 2010. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 5, 1922 to the late, Thomas Thompson Firth, Sr. and Caryl Rogers Firth. He was the youngest of three boys. The family moved to Talbot County in 1933. He attended Easton Elementary School in Idlewild Park and Mercersburg Academy, after which he served in the Coast Guard during WWII. Following his service he went to business school and worked in Baltimore. In the early fifties he came back to Trappe to run the family’s farm management business which he worked up until the time of his illness. In 1950, he married Georgiana Hooker Firth who preceded him in death in 1995. His two brothers, Thomas Thompson Firth, Jr. and John Livezey Firth also preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, Douglas Lannin Firth and his wife, Rebecca of Trappe, Frances Beaumont Firth of Easton, Michael Rogers Firth of Naples, Florida, and Susan Firth Wood and her husband, Earle (Roo); four grandchildren, Catherine Rogers Firth, Patrick Lannin Firth, Earle (Peter) Wood, IV, and Caroline Montgomery Wood, and nine nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his second wife, Jeane Hill Firth whom he married in 2003 and her two children, Brian Hill of Bakersfield, California and Diane Desmery of Duxbury, Massachusetts. Mike was an avid hunter, yachtsman, fisherman, and photographer. He enjoyed model ship building and wood working. He was a world traveler and cruised with his family and friends all over the Chesapeake Bay and up and down the east coast. His love for the Eastern Shore and the Chesapeake Bay guided him in his mission to use environmentally sound farming and conservation practices. Mike was a past member of the Talbot Country Agricultural Society, and a member and Past Commodore of the Tred Avon Yacht Club, and member of the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Club. He will always be remembered as a kind and gentle man with a great sense of humor who enjoyed sharing his “Beauvoir Specials” with good friends. A graveside service will be held at Oxford Cemetery on November 16, 2010 at 11 am. Donations in Mike’s memory can be made to the Trappe Volunteer Fire Department, Attention: Mr. Don English, P.O.
