Richard S. Jacquette Sr.

Richard Samuel Jacquette Sr. of Rock Hall, MD died on Friday, March 8, 2002 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. He was 83. Born in Broadneck, Chestertown, MD on March 14, 1919, he was the son of the late James Leroy and Irene Emma Metcalf Jacquette. Mr. Jacquette attended schools in Rock Hall and served in the Army National Guard. He entered into active duty on January 24, 1942 and served in WWII with the 29th Division in the European Theatre, storming the beaches in Normandy on D Day. He was honorably discharged in June of 1945 and received a bronze star. He married Doris Coleman on January 23, 1948 and they made their home in Rock Hall, MD. Mr. Jacquette worked with C & P Telephone as a lineman until retiring in 1982. On August 11, 1988 his wife predeceased him. Mr. Jacquette was well known for opening Jacks Service Station every morning until his recent illness. He enjoyed the scenic beauty of the wildlife in Kent County. He was also interested in fishing and woodworking. Mr. Jacquette was known for loving Christmas, playing Santa Claus and photographing during the season at Wesley Chapel Church, where he was also a member. He was also a member of Sgt. Preston Ashley American Legion Post #228 Rock Hall, Md. and the V.F.W. He was involved with the Pioneers and 40&8. He is survived by four children, Richard S. Jacquette, Jr., Charles P. Jacquette, Judy Dagenais, and Sarah Louise Thompson, two brothers, Curtis Jacquette, and Randolph Jacquette all of Rock Hall, MD. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. One grandson, Ralph Samuel Cox III predeceased him in 1987. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at Wesley Chapel Church in Rock Hall, MD. Relatives and friends may call on Monday, March 11, 2002 between the hours of 7:00 and 9:00 P.M. at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, Route #20, Rock Hall, Md. Interment will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Sgt. Preston Ashley American Legion Post #228, P.O.
