Reginald "Reggie" Anthony Gilbert

Reginald Anthony Gilbert, “Reggie” as he was affectionately known to most, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at his home in Dover, DE. He was 62 years young at his time of departure. Reggie was born in Kent County, MD, on September 23, 1959. He was the son of Doris Johnson and the late Robert “Junebug” Gilbert. Reggie was a Kent County High School graduate “Class of 1977” where he loved to play soccer. Upon his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served 24 years, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. During his active service he earned the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal; Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Gold star; Kuwait Liberation Medal; along with several other meritorious commendations. He served in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Guantanamo Bay, as well as stateside. After his honorable retirement from the US Navy, he went on to work as an Alcohol and Drug counselor at New Horizons at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. Reggie really enjoyed a good time with his friends and family and going fishing when time permitted. Reggie also enjoyed spending time with his furry best friend “Wags.” In addition to his mother Doris Johnson, he is survived by his three children, Vontaye Gilbert, Tyra Gilbert, both of Chestertown, MD, and Demont Brown, of Dover, DE; three step children, Christopher Evans,Ronald Evans, Kyara “Muffy” Evans- Fletcher, all of Mobile, AL; three brothers, Terry Steward, of Chestertown, MD, Garrett Gilbert, Ivan Gilbert of Baltimore, MD; two sisters, Glendora Prichett of Chestertown, MD, Angela Gilbert, of Baltimore, MD; a godmother, Jocelyn Williams, of Chestertown MD; a goddaughter, Kanesha Leso, of Oceanside, CA; close friends, Steve Caulk, Wilbert Givens Jr, Clifford Mcintosh, and Kym Lofland; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Regina Gilbert, grandmothers, Mary Graves and Pricie Elias; and man’s best friend his dog “Wags.” Services will be held on Saturday, September 17, at 12:00 pm at Bethel AME Church in Chestertown. A closed flag-draped casket visitation will be held one hour prior from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm at the church. Interment will be held at Eastern Shore Veteran's Cemetery. The service will be available as a livestream if internet capabilities at the church allow. If the livestream cannot work, the service will be recorded and uploaded to our website as soon as possible.
