Raymond Edward Blessing

Easton – Raymond Edward “Eddy” Blessing, a dedicated public servant passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Easton, Maryland on July 11, 1941 to the late William and Alice Blessing and was the brother to five siblings Lillian Carroll, Vernon Brogley, Virginia Todd, Howard Blessing, and Margaret Voshell. Eddy grew up on a farm, but after high school, chose a different path. He worked for Rudd’s Pest Control and joined the Maryland National Guard. It was during that time that he decided to become a police officer. In August 1964, he joined the Easton Police Department and was the first formally trained police officer at EPD. He trained in Pikesville, at the MD State Police Training Academy. On December 15, 1972, he graduated from The FBI National Academy-91st Class. On September 8, 1964, he married Doris Thompson. Although they weren’t successful in marriage, they grew to be lasting friends. On July 17, 1976, he married Donna Lorah and they were inseparable. Their devotion to each other and their family was an inspiration. They recently celebrated 49 loving years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Robin O’Brien (Billy), Stacie Johnson (Sonny), Billy Blessing (Tish), and Steve Repetti (Angie), seven grandchildren Amber, Ashley, Sydney, Mason, Riley, Wyatt, Lanna, and two great grandchildren Baker and Lila, with another arriving in January. He is also survived by sisters, Ginny Todd and Margie Voshell, a brother-in-law Ronnie Lorah, and several nieces and nephews. He rose through the ranks at EPD, becoming the Chief of Police in 1980. After 31 years of dedicated service he retired in June 1995 and after just 32 days of retirement, joined the Talbot County Sheriff’s Department, as Chief Deputy. He retired from the Sheriff’s Department in December 2002. He is past member of the Easton Jaycees, Easton Moose Club, Fraternal Order of Police, Eastern Shore Police Association, National Academy Association, and was a member of the Law Enforcement Advisory Boards of Chesapeake College and Wor-Wic Community College. In 1989, he was sworn in as President of Maryland Chiefs of Police Association. He was extremely proud of bringing the D.A.R.E. program to Talbot County, as it’s still taught in the schools today. He was passionate about teaching children about the dangers of drugs. Eddy was an avid sports enthusiast and played on or managed the Easton Jaycees and Doc’s Quick Shop softball teams. During the early years, he took hunting parties and played on the Moose Club’s shuffleboard league. He was also the Tidewater Softball League Commissioner. As his son Billy grew, he coached the majority of his teams from T-Ball, Little League, Senior League, All-stars, and soccer. For all of his career accomplishments, he was most proud of his family. He was a “BLESSING” and told everyone who cared to listen! He also dearly loved his Schipperke dogs, Chief and Matti. He could be found on the sidelines of his grandchildren’s various events and would blow a fierce piercing whistle, so they knew he was there. He raised a strong, loving family who will dearly miss him. A celebration to honor Eddy’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at the Easton Church of God, 1009 N. Washington St, Easton, MD. A viewing will begin at 10:00 am, followed by the service at 11:00. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery, 11365 Ocean Gateway, Easton.
