Philip Raymond Hogue

Philip Raymond Hogue of Chestertown, MD, died on Sunday, September 7, 2014, at Heron Point. He was 93. He was born in Palmer, NE, on January 5, 1921, the son of the late James Earl and Ellen Levon Johnson Hogue. He graduated from Charlotte Hall Military Academy in St. Mary’s County in 1938. In 1943, he graduated from the University of Maryland where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Education. Mr. Hogue served with the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII stateside as an Aircraft Mechanic. He was honorably discharged. After he married Aileen Marie Williams on February 11, 1944, they lived in Hyattsville, MD, where he worked with John Deere and also taught vocational agriculture for two years at Southern High School and for two years in Prince George’s County. Mr. Hogue then took a position as Farm Manager for four years with Wye River Farms in Queenstown, MD. He returned to Hyattsville and worked as a Realtor with farms and acreage. He later worked as a self-employed real estate broker until retiring his license in 2002. Mr. Hogue served on the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission for three years. He was a member of Riverdale Presbyterian Church and later Chestertown Presbyterian Church. He served as a deacon, elder, and trustee. He was Past President of the College Park Rotary Club, a member of the Chestertown Rotary Club, and worked with Boy Scouts of America. In 1998, he and his wife moved to Heron Point in Chestertown, MD, where he was an active member of the Maryland Continuing Care Residence Association, served as a director of the United Way, and a Chairman of the mission committee of Chestertown Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Chester Testers. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters ,Karen Ruth Baker (David) of Waynesboro, TN, and Edith Helen Certain (Ken) of Marshall, TX, and a son, Philip Keith Hogue (Jacqueline) of Spotsylvania, VA, along with grandchildren, Jacob, Denise, Emilie, Crystal, and Dennis. His brother, Lester Earl Hogue, and sister, Lois Miller, predeceased him. Services will be held at Chestertown Presbyterian Church on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at 1:00 p.m.
