Olaf Gerard Vinje III

Olaf G. Vinje, III of Trappe, Maryland passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. The son of the late Olaf S. Vinje and Rose Caputo-Vinje, Olaf was born on November 16, 1955, in Southampton, New York. He grew up on the East End of Long Island with his parents, oldest sister Joyce and younger sister Angela. In 1974, Olaf graduated from Southampton High School where he obtained his high school diploma. Shortly after graduation, Olaf and his friends had formed the band Vision, where he was both the lead guitarist and singer. Vision would frequent the local bars and clubs throughout the Hamptons every weekend and quickly became very popular amongst the locals. During this time, Olaf focused on community service by joining the North Sea Fire Department and began working at Southampton Hospital. After a short stint at the hospital, he shifted gears and went to work at Kukla Electronics as an apprentice. Little did he know that this change would eventually turn into a life-long passion of his. He continued on this path by transferring to Atlantic Electronics which was owned by Peter Kromhout. Olaf would improve his knowledge and skills, over the next several years, at which point, he decided to put in an application with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), to join his father Olaf S. Vinje who was a supervisor at the time. In January 2022, Olaf retired with 34 years of service as an Electronics Tech Engineer, throughout his years, he would oversee installations of systems, manage a diverse crew and became an important part of the team. As Olaf’s career was about to begin, his life was continuing to be blessed. In 1987, Olaf had met the love of his life Norma Reeves. He and Norma had spent several years together before finally getting married on October 10, 1992. Over the next 30 years, they built a beautiful life, home and family together. Olaf and Norma were soul-mates who stood by each other’s sides through thick and thin and never doubted the love they had for one another. Olaf is survived by: his wife of 30 years, Norma Vinje [Reeves]; sisters Joyce Cole [Vinje] & Angela Coffey [Vinje]; his children, Olaf R. Vinje (wife Stacy), Karl F. Vinje (wife Sarah), Danielle M. Carragher (husband Christopher M.), Angelo S. Vinje (partner Colleen) and Olesia R. Vinje (partner Christopher A.); and grandchildren, Jessica, Catherine, Madison, Gina, Julia, Anastasia, Sophia and Cecelia. The family will receive friends Tuesday July 26, 2022 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home at 200 S. Harrison St, Easton, Maryland. Service is at 1:30 pm at Christ Church, 111 S. Harrison Street in Easton. Father Charlie Osberger will officiate with burial to follow at Spring Hill Cemetery, Aurora St. in Easton. Family will receive friends back at Christ Church for a celebration of life.
