Oddmund Sigbjorn Angell

Oddmund “Artie” Sigbjorn Angell, 88, of Rock Hall, MD passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on August 13, 2026. Artie was born on June 29, 1938, in Brusand, Norway. He was the son of the late Hans Kristian Angell and Hanna Angell (Bjelland). At the age of 21, Artie came to the United States with nothing but $200 in his pocket determined to build a life for himself. He was able to not only teach himself the English language but went on to build an incredible legacy for his family in construction, molding himself into a master builder. Artie and his wife, Hedvig, started their American dream in Brooklyn, New York, before moving his family to Medford, New Jersey, where they raised their daughters, Heidi and Laila. After raising their daughters, Artie and Hedvig built their forever home in Rock Hall, Maryland. Although Artie was a Norwegian immigrant, he had an immense love for this country, volunteering as an auxiliary officer for the Rock Hall auxiliary fire police for many years. He had a real passion for volunteering for his community. Through his volunteer work he made many friends in not only the police and fire department, but throughout the Rock Hall community. Artie loved watching and playing golf with his grandsons. One of his favorite things to do was spending time with his friends at his favorite local bars, Maggie’s and the local Sgt Preston Ashley American legion post 228 in Rock Hall. Above all of these passions, his greatest love was his wife. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Hedvig Karin Angell (Skar), and daughters Heidi Angell Tortu (David) and Laila Angell Nyman (David). He was the world’s best poppop to Ashley Hanna Guarino, Erik Hans Nyman (Abby), David Lars Tortu (Alexa), Zachary Sigbjorn Nyman (Kim), Nicholas Kristian Tortu and Alexander Raymond Nyman. Adoring great grandpa to Cole Michael Guarino. Artie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him but especially by his loving wife Hedvig. A funeral service will be held on Sunday August 23, 2026, at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newman Funeral Home 130 Speer Rd Chestertown MD 21620 where family and friends are welcome to visit from 12-2 with services starting at 2. Burial will follow the service at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Cemetery 7579 Sandy Bottom Rd Chestertown MD. A luncheon will follow the burial at the Sgt Preston Ashley American legion post 228. 21423 E Sharp St Rock Hall MD.
