Norman Mench

Norman Copeland Mench of Chestertown, MD, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2006 at the Chester River Hospital Center. He was 78. Norman C. Mench was born November 15, 1927 on his grandparent’s farm in Milatota, MD, a suburb of Chestertown MD, son of the late James G. Mench and Catherine Joiner Mench. Norman enlisted and served his country in the United States Navy during WW II. After serving his country, he formed and operated the sole proprietor business, A & C Truckmen Leasing. Norman was compassionate about his work because it provided the opportunity to be independent, to always see new places, meet new people, and to learn much about many things. Norman loved his wife and family, and any time spent with his siblings. When not driving, Norman filled his leisure time farming and gardening, and whenever able to make the time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Norman''s wife and children admired him for many of his traits, namely his devotion, faithfulness, loyalty, steadfastness, honestness, dependability, and his sincerity. "Bud" as he was affectionately called by his wife, was a tried-and-true husband, companion, and father. Norman C. Mench was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce M. Waddell Mench in 2004. He was also preceded by one daughter, Carolyn F. Hanna and two brothers, James G. Mench and Robert M. Mench. Norman is survived by three sons and their wives, Norman D. and Ann Mench of Massey, MD, Robert D. and JoAnne S. Mench of Columbia, MD, and Lawrence S. and Charlene Mench of Lincoln, DE, and one daughter, Constance F. Mench of Chestertown, MD; seven grandchildren, Eric Wilson and Crystal Back, Brian and Shannon Mench, Chris Mench, Daniel Mench, Thomas Hanna, Lucas Mench, and Megan Mench; two great grandchildren, Ethan Mench and Eric Wilson; and four sisters, Elizabeth B. Messina, Margaret A. and Lewes E. Lane, Hazel M. and George R. Moffett, Jr., and Diane C. and Richard E. Gordon. Services will be held Thursday, May 25, 2006 at 4pm at the Chestertown Seventh-Day Adventist Church where friends may call two hours prior. Interment will be held Friday, May 26, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, MD.
