Michael John Friedl

Michael “Mike” John Friedl, age 65, of Stevensville, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly at home on January 15, 2026. Mike was born in Baltimore, MD on August 3, 1960. He grew up on the Magothy River, where his favorite pastimes were trot-lining and crabbing. He was a young entrepreneur, selling soft crabs and his catch of the day to local ladies as he pulled his rowboat home. He spoke frequently and fondly of his Pop Clopein, who introduced him to his love of fishing and crabbing. He graduated from RETS Electronic School in Baltimore, MD with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He spent his career working in business and sales, and poured years of hard work and grit into building the very successful M.J. Friedl & Associates, a provider of underground utility solutions. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Marty and Nancy Friedl. He is survived by his beloved wife, Terri Friedl; his treasured children and their spouses, Jonathon Friedl (Amanda), Brooke Friedl (Beau), Shannon Komeylian (Chris), and Casey Staub; and his adored grandchildren, Mia Friedl, Lydia Komeylian, Archer Friedl, Lucie Komeylian, and Mike was thrilled to learn of another granddaughter on the way, Etta Icenhower. He is also survived by his first wife, Cinda Bennett, mother of Jon and Brooke, and numerous Clopein, Friedl, and Harmon relatives. Mike lived his life best encapsulated by Frank Sinatra’s “My Way”: out loud and to the absolute fullest. He will be remembered for his playful spirit and hearty laugh, sneaking too much sugar to his grandchildren, and a deep love for his family and home. He loved watching the sunset on the Chesapeake Bay from his pier, with a glass of wine and his “pups” (Terri) by his side; playing with his best friend - his chocolate lab, Cooper; planting Christmas trees and running a vegetable stand at his farm in Chester River Beach; vacationing and deep sea fishing off of the shores of Isla Mujeres, Mexico; and cherishing time with his children and grandchildren poolside. His laughter was contagious, and his ability to find joy in the everyday was nothing short of remarkable. He lived boldly, loved deeply, and leaves an indelible mark on everyone lucky enough to know him. Until we meet again. A service will take place at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newman Funeral Home in Chester, MD on Friday, January 23, 2026. A visitation will be held 1:00-3:00pm, followed by a memorial service at 3:00pm. All are welcome to celebrate a man who was larger than life.
