Mary Helen Turner

Mary Helen Turner of Easton died on Monday, June 22, 2009 of complications from diabetes at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. She was 83. Born September 22, 1925 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late, John S. and Helen Callahan Rosemer. Mrs. Turner was a 1943 graduate of Seton High School in Baltimore and graduated in 1945 from St. Agnes College in Mt. Washington, MD. Her marriage in 1948 to Dr. Michael T. Volatile ended in divorce. On June 25, 1961, she married Horatio W. Turner, III (Harry) and they built their home in Easton. She was a former member of The Hospital Auxiliary, The Harbor Club, The Talbot Country Club and a member of the Tred Avon Yacht Club. For about 12 years Mrs. Turner managed low income subsidized housing. Prior to that she was Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Students at Chesapeake College in Wye Mills. Mrs. Turner is survived by her husband Harry Turner of Charlotte Hall; her children, John R. Volatile, Sr. and his companion Molly Johnson of Trappe, Thomas B. Volatile, M.D. and his wife Sandee of Texas, Gerard B. Volatile and his wife Virginia of Baltimore, Lynn Turner, PhD of Alexandria, VA, Horatio W. Turner, IV, Capt., USN retired and his wife Penny of Kings George, VA and William Fitzhugh Turner and his wife Linda of Stevensville; her sister, M. Cecilia R. Hrdlick of Baltimore; and a very special former daughter in law, Katherine E. Volatile, M.D. of North Carolina. She is also survived by her grandchildren, John R. Volatile, Jr., C.E. Volatile, R. Stokely Volatile, T. Ryan Volatile, Mary Katherine Volatile, Alexandra McCord Turner, Horatio W. Turner, V, Mary M. Rhodes, Abigail Turner and Emily Turner, as well as her great granddaughter, Luisa Maynadier Rhodes. Waiting for her at the Rainbow Bridge are her beloved dogs: Sugar, Holly, Susie, Dixie, Sampson, Molly, Samantha, Betty, Annie, Millie, Pattie and Murphy. Friends may call on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Easton from 6:00-8:00 pm with prayers at 7:30. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the St. Michaels Mission Church, St. Michaels at 12:00 pm. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul School, 900 High St., Easton, MD 21601 or to The Talbot County Humane Society, PO Box 1148, Easton, MD 21601.
