Mary Boyd Malley

Mary Boyd Malley of Stevensville died on February 21, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 86. Born July 18, 1924 in Strouds, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late, Simpson F. and Pearl Matthews Boyd. Also proceeded in death, three sisters, Betty Booker, Helen Becker, Shirley Fletcher and four brothers, Eli Boyd, Carl Boyd, Francis Boyd and James (Pete) Boyd. She grew up on the family farm where she helped with the cooking, baking, and the wash. Mary attended a one room elementary school in Strouds Creek and later attended Cowan High School. After high school she moved to Baltimore, MD where she worked for Glen L. Martins as a “Rosei the Rivettor” during WWII. Through the years she would also work for Sylvania Electric Corp, Westinghouse Electric, Montgomery Wards and C & P Telephone. She attended Johns Hopkins University, taking accounting courses and a business machines course at Strayer University. In 1945 she moved to Pimlico, MD and married Nelson F. Malley on December 8 of that same year. The two moved to Kent Island in December of 1965 in the home they had built. Mary and Nelson loved to entertain and travel the world usually taking either family or friends along. In 1987 she retired from Westinghouse, at the Bay Bridge after 35 years of service. She was always helping others in any way she could. She loved spending time with her family and friends playing skipboe or sharing stories. Mary attended The Bridge where she was baptized and shared her love for the Lord. Mrs. Malley is survived by her niece/daughter, Sheila Stairs and her husband, Stephen, and their children, Mariah and Elijah of Stevensville; a brother, Vernon Boyd of West Virginia; a sister, Zela M. Stewart and her husband, Clayton of Ohio; a niece/sister Louise Dempsey and her husband, Bob of Westminster, MD; and many other loved family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011, 11:00AM at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 106 Shamrock Road, Chester, MD where friends and family may call from 10:00-11:00AM.
