Maryanne Stinson

Maryanne H. Stinson died peacefully at her home on April 13, 2012, with her family by her side. Born on December 8, 1926, to parents John William and Katherine Murphy Hurley, Maryanne grew up in New Brighton, PA, attending New Brighton Public Schools, and later attending Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA, for her undergraduate teaching degree. She went on to get her Master’s degree in education from George Washington University. Maryanne taught secondary education in Arlington, VA, and Prince George’s County, MD, before moving to the Eastern Shore of Maryland where she taught in Talbot and Caroline counties. After she retired from teaching, Maryanne sold real estate at Nily Realty in Easton for many years. She was active in the community, serving as the secretary of Chapel District Elementary School, President of the Chapel District Little League, Chairman of Talbot County Social Services Board, President of the Talbot County Farm Bureau Ladies Committee, Parliamentarian of Maryland State Farm Bureau Ladies Committee and Treasurer of T.R.I.O., Transplant Recipients International Organization. After surviving cancer surgery, Maryanne received a blood transfusion in the 1970’s that gave her Hepatitis C, eventually leading to liver failure followed by a successful transplant performed at the University of Pittsburgh in 1995. She and her family are very grateful to the person who helped save her life. Maryanne and Aubrey A. Stinson, Sr., were married on June 20, 1959 and resided in Cordova, MD, where they together tended to his dairy and grain farm. Aubrey died on February 28, 2003. She is survived by her brother Thomas J. Hurley of Green Valley, AZ; her daughter, Katherine Ann Stinson of Marion, SC; son, Aubrey A. “Chip” Stinson, Jr., and his wife, Sandy and daughter, Jenna; son John W. “Skip” Stinson and his wife, Susan, and son, Jack; and grandson/adopted son, Kevin Alan Stinson. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Easton, MD, on Thursday, April 19 at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Greenmount Cemetery in Hillsboro, MD. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation be made to your favorite charity or Talbot Hospice in Maryanne’s name.
