Mary Lou Meadows

Mary Lou Meadows, age 92, passed away quietly at the Corsica Hills Nursing home in Centreville on January 21, 2025. Knowing the end was near her children and local grand children were able to say goodbye on Sunday January 19. Mary Lou was born on April 11, 1932 in Baltimore the daughter of Joseph and Mary L. Wanko. In her younger days Mary Lou would often talk about her life on the farm. The farm was eventually taken so the airport (currently BWI and formally known as Friendship) could be built. Mary Lou graduated from Glen Burnie High School. Mary Lou was a mom in 1952 and raised 5 boys. She was a great mom who was very devoted to her family and had a special place in her heart for children. As such she was excited and felt very blessed to see 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren added to her family. She was greatly saddened to see her second child, Duane, predecease her in 2005 at the age of 50. Mary Lou had quite the sense of humor and exercised it especially at Christmas through the fun of creative gift wrapping. What the box said on the outside was not always what was on the inside. This humor has been passed onto her family. Mary Lou lived in the Glen Burnie and Ferndale area before moving to Kent Island 1969. She was a school bus driver on both of ‘the shores’ and co-owned a bus with her second husband Paul Fuld Jr. Mary Lou was also involved with the Kent Island Fire Department. She served in the ladies fire department auxiliary. She was also served as an EMT and ambulance driver. She worked at the Kent Island Western Auto store for a number of years until retiring. Mary Lou is survived by four of her children Thomas Willis (Joann), Randy Willis, Joel Willis and Paul Wayne Fuld; Grandchildren Joseph Willis (Samantha), David Willis, Bonnie Wright (Stephen), Amberlee Gwaltney (Mark); great-grandchildren Kaylen Wright, Addison Willis, James Gwaltney, Jayden Gwaltney and Logan Willis. In addition to her parents Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, her second son Duane in 2005 and her third husband Otis Meadows in 2006. Her beloved special four legged doggie friend ‘Pepper’ will rest with her. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday March 22nd, 2025 11am at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 106 Shamrock Rd. Chester, MD 21619. Food and fellowship will immediately follow the service at the funeral home. Mary Lou’s private internment will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Beulah next to her husband Otis Meadows.
