Mary Friel Huber

Mary Matilda Friel Huber was born in beautiful Queenstown, MD on June 20, 1939. Mary graduated from Georgetown Visitation Junior College in Washington, D.C., and attended University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland. She is a family member of the S.E.W. Friel business legacy on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Mary raised her three children in Wyckoff, NJ. She was very active in St. Elizabeth’s Church and her community. Mary was an incredible athlete, an avid bridge player, and a good friend. She had many volunteer roles and was there for her children in every way an amazing mom could be. In 2009, Mary moved to Moorestown, NJ where she lived at The Evergreens. Mary made many new friends and was very active in her community. In 2021, Mary relocated to Harrison City, PA to spend more time with her daughter and family. Mary is survived by her brother, James Reynolds Friel, Jr. (Mary Helen Friel) of Centreville, MD. She is survived by her daughter, Michele McFeely Huber (Jennifer Joyce Huber) of Harrison City, PA. She is preceded in death by her son, Christopher Reynolds Huber (Shellynne Whelan Huber), her daughter, Kimberly Kern Huber, and her sister Pamela Whiting Friel Bernard. Mary is survived by her grandchildren Matilda Ruth Huber and Michael Christopher Huber of Harrison City, PA and by Bailey Edward Huber and Savannah Leeann Huber of Mahtomedi, MN. Mary is the eldest daughter of the late Mary Matilda Parks Friel and late James Reynolds Friel, Sr. She cherished her sisters-in-law and all her nieces, nephews, and their families as her own. Mary was a force to be reckoned with—fierce, clever, and unapologetically strong. Known for her quick wit and unwavering compassion, she faced life’s challenges head-on, never backing down and never giving up. She carried an unshakable faith, a deep belief in God, and a trust that everything happened for a reason, just as it was meant to be. Through it all, she remained deeply loved by all who knew her. In Mary's final moments, Michele held her hand, gave her a kiss on the forehead, and told her she loved her. She took her final breaths listening to Ave Maria, one of her most beloved songs. Mary passed peacefully on May 27, 2025. A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Monday, June 9 at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Centreville, MD 21617 and a mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, June 10 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Queenstown, MD. Mary’s favorite colors were red and yellow—bright and full of life. As a quiet tribute to her memory, the family will be wearing red at the funeral and invites others to join in honoring her in this small but special way.
