Martha Florence Freeman “Marty” of Millington, Maryland passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025. She was 78 years young. Marty was born in Greensboro, Maryland on December 29, 1946, to the late Thelma Jean Bostic and Woodrow Stephen Bostic. She attended Centreville High School where she graduated with the class of 1964. After high school graduation, Marty attended Cosmetology school at Best Beauty School. In 1968, upon graduation, she started her own business, Touch of Beauty Salon, and worked with her favorite clients until she was 75 years old. Marty was an active community member and was a member of the American Legion, Kent Center, Relay for Life, Millington Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, Sudlersville Betterment Club, and the Galena Alumni Band. Marty was also an active member of her church, Asbury United Methodist. She spent many years planning, hosting, and putting on a show for the annual Asbury Church Hoedown. She also attended Tuesday Morning Bible Study. She enjoyed being a hostess at the Chicken and Dumpling dinners at the local Millington Fire Company and helping to decorate the town of Millington for Christmas. Along with all her participation in the community, Marty was the lead singer of the band “Marty & The Raiders” in her youth, capitalizing on her passion for singing and entertaining at a young age. She was the Kent County recipient of the “Most Beautiful Person” award in 2000. To round out some of Marty’s favorites activities, she loved being “Marty from Millington” and calling in the weather nightly to WBOC. Marty’s most beloved role in life was that of “mom” and “mom mom.” Marty spent many years not only working as a hair stylist but also watching her grandkids Kylie and Patrick every day after school and in the summer. She was the queen of a grilled cheese and Monday afternoon trips to the Dover Movie Theater. Marty also devoted her early years to her only son, Steve, who adored and loved his mom passionately. Marty was preceded in death by her mother, father and uncle, Richard Marter, who affectionally called her “Bob”. She is survived by her son, Steve Freeman, his wife Melissa, grandchildren Kylie Usilton (Brodie), and soon to be great-grandson, and Patrick Freeman (Ellie). Marty was also survived by countless friends; some she even considered to be her sisters. A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025 from 10am – 1pm at Fellows Family Funeral Home 370 Cypress St. Millington, MD 21651. Services will begin at 1pm. Interment to follow at Sudlersville Cemetery in Sudlersville, Maryland. In honor of Marty’s favorite color pink, feel free to wear your favorite shade if attending any of the services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the “Touch of Beauty” Scholarship Fund c/o Steve Freeman 324 Hackett Corner Rd Sudlersville, MD 21668. This scholarship will be gifted to a young aspiring Cosmetologist to help pay for tuition at the Cosmetology school of their choice.
