Marilyn Jayne Reedy

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of a beloved friend and family member, Marilyn Jayne Reedy, of Easton, MD, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. She was 71 years old. Her passions were gardening and the environment, helping others, and her little rescue dog, Abby. Marilyn was born on April 7, 1954, in Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland to Robert and Margaret Earl. She weighed 2 lbs 12 oz and was 15 in long. She spent most of her time growing up with her sisters in Montana before moving to Colorado in 1968. She graduated from Arvada West High School in 1971 with honors. At 18 years old she returned to the state of Maryland. She worked for 25 years as an insurance director at a nursing home in Frederick. Marilyn and her soulmate Doug were married in April 1991 in a beautiful garden in a local park. They settled in Easton in 2015. In 2015 Marilyn and her late husband, Doug, moved to Easton, MD. Marilyn blossomed. Marilyn developed a large coterie of friends and acquaintances who value the environment and gardening, and she set out to serve “her” community. Marilyn quickly became involved in volunteer organizations that focused on improving this planet, in general, and the Chesapeake Bay region, in particular, including Master Gardeners, Master Naturalists, Adkins Arboretum, Oxford Garden Club, and the Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland. In each organization, Marilyn took on leadership positions and guided many successful projects. Marilyn also was an avid sustainable home gardener, filling her yard with native plants to create habitat for birds, butterflies, and bees and giving beauty back to the world. Her involvement in the community and her home brought Marilyn a rewarding sense of purpose. While Marilyn worked relentlessly to serve the community, it was her outgoing, caring, empathetic, thoughtful personal qualities that made her so memorable. Marilyn was the first to greet and offer aid to friends, acquaintances, and strangers; and she was the last to leave meetings to assure no one or no task was left behind. Marilyn loved to share ideas, treats, thoughtful gifts, kind and encouraging words, smiles, and her famous hugs. We know Marilyn would be happy to know that she continued to help others even after her death by participating in the organ donation program. We thank the doctors, nurses, techs, aides, and EMTs who so professionally and kindly assisted Marilyn on her final earthly journey at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Easton and at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. Marilyn was preceeded in death by the passing of her beloved husband of 32 years (1957-2023), and her father, Robert Earl (1928-2020). She is survived by her mother, her two sisters, and four nieces and nephews. We invite friends to join us in celebrating Marilyn’s spirit, life, and legacy in the Spring.
