Margaret E. Tennant

Margaret E. Tennant passed away peacefully at the Talbot Hospice House in Easton on Friday, January 29, 2010, surrounded by her family. She was 86. Born to the late Nettie and Milton Eason on July 25, 1923, Margaret was the fifth of ten children and spent her childhood in the Oxford area where her father was a farmer. After graduating from high school, she remained in the Talbot County area. She worked in an ammunition factory in Chestertown, placing detonator caps in explosives during World War II. In 1968 she married Sam “Bobo” Tennant. In the late 1970s, she retired from Chesapeake Publishing where she had worked for many years as a photo engraver. Margaret was devoted to her family and always put others first. She was an excellent cook and never missed a chance to cook for her family and friends. She loved sports, especially baseball, and rarely missed an Orioles game. She loved music, played the guitar in her early years and later piano and organ. Margaret loved holidays and parties and especially loved to decorate for Halloween and Christmas. She was an enthusiastic bird watcher, a hobby introduced to her by her son, and spent many hours watching the birds at her many feeders. She loved flowers and there was rarely a time when she didn’t have something blooming. Margaret is survived by her son, Don Meritt and his wife, Joyce, of Easton; a daughter, Denise Taylor and her husband, Pat, of Newcomb; two grandsons, Chris Handley and his wife, Claudia, of Severn, and Brent Handley, of Easton; one granddaughter, Lisa Dirr, and her husband, John Paul Dirr, of Cinnaminson, NJ; three sisters: Pearl Pritchett of Cambridge, Betty Miller of Allentown, PA, and Naomi Behrens of Cordova; one brother, Robert Eason of Darien, GA; and her sister-in-law, Sophia Coblentz, of Towson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend, Peggy Allen, of Newcomb. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers: Edward Eason, Raymond Eason, and William Eason; and two sisters, Helen Hicks and Mary Harrison. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 5, 2010 at 2:30 pm at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Easton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
