Kenneth Meals

Kenneth R. Meals, 86, of Easton, MD, passed away January 5, 2012, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Baltimore on October 21, 1925, he was the son of the late Raymond E. Meals and Mary C. Schwenk Meals. Ken is survived by a son, Kenneth J. Meals and his wife Regina; grandchildren, Lisa and KC of Singapore; daughter, Patricia M. Mason her husband Ronald of Plant City, FL; granddaughter, Brenna Alciauskas and her husband Roman; a great-grandson, Sebastian of Philadelphia, PA; one sister, Gloria Paulino and husband John of Baltimore, MD; and a special nephew, Raymond E. Meals of Bowling Green, MD. At the golden age of 55, Ken was blessed by finding his soul mate, Bettejane R. Meals. He was preceded in death by “BJ” after 22 years of marriage. He is survived by step-son, Philip S. Curry and wife Tammy of Easton, and their children, Matt (Diane), Cory, Michael, Lyndsey, Alyssa, and Zach and great-grandson Mason; stepson, Barry K. Curry and wife Carolyn of Hoover, AL, and their children Taylor, Collin, Harper, and Galen; stepson, Paul L. Curry and his wife Zanna of Reno, NV, and their daughter Daniella; and stepson, Stanley K. (Chip) Curry and his wife, Kathryn of Glen Rock, PA, and their daughter Kim Curry of Salisbury, MD. Ken was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. He proudly served in the US Navy during World War II, enlisting at the age of 17. He moved to the Eastern Shore with his young family in the early 1950’s where he began a forty-year tenure with Waverly Press. During his years at Waverly, he made friends, joined organizations, and developed hobbies and interests that lasted a lifetime. He was a member of Granite Lodge #177 AF & AM in St. Michaels, Easton Elks Lodge #1622, Easton Lions Club, and VFW Memorial Post 5118. He retired to enjoy more of his favorite pastimes like traveling, boating, gardening, woodworking, and entertaining friends. As a Dad he will most fondly be remembered for “Bonus Baby” and the yellow banana skis, Sunday night pizzas, barbershop harmony, and playing any song on the harmonica by ear. Bully Boy has been waiting. A celebration of Ken’s life will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Easton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park near Easton.
