Judy Savage

Hazel Judith Savage – known to all who loved her as “Judy” – was born on October 22, 1941, in Washington, D.C. She grew up in Prince George’s County, Maryland, where she attended Northwestern High School before earning a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Maryland, College Park. In May 1964, Judy married the love of her life, Donald Wayne Savage, beginning a partnership of enduring devotion and shared purpose. Together they welcomed their only son, Timothy, in 1967. The family settled in Davidsonville, Maryland, making their home in the beloved Harbor Hills community, where Judy put down deep roots. Later in life, Judy and Don moved to a home in downtown Annapolis, where Judy enjoyed her swimming pool and gardening. A gifted educator at heart, Judy gave generously of her time throughout her life. In Annapolis, she served as an active Sunday school teacher and tutored local children. She was instrumental in establishing and running the Bicentennial Information Center for Annapolis and Anne Arundel County – a project that reflected her deep civic pride. She also served proudly as an aide to several Maryland State Senators during annual legislative sessions. Among the most cherished chapters of Judy’s life were the twenty-two years she, Don, and family spent, on and off, at their vacation home on Harbour Island in the Bahamas. There, Judy’s love of learning and community found its fullest expression. She was a driving force behind the revitalization of the Sir George Roberts Memorial Library on the island – fundraising, raising awareness, and dedicating herself to ensuring that children of all ages had a safe, inspiring place to discover the joy of reading. She created after-school programs and tutoring initiatives that touched a generation of young lives. Judy was a lifelong gardener with a special love of roses and a deep affection for birds. She treasured her days on the sun-drenched shores of Fenwick Island, Delaware, and the pink sand beaches of the Bahamas. She was an accomplished cook and baker who delighted in perfecting recipes alongside Donald. Above all, Judy was a proud and devoted patriot of the United States of America. Judy is survived by her husband, Donald Wayne Savage; her son, Timothy Wayne Savage (Tracy Doster Welch); and her granddaughter, Sarah Taylor Savage. Services will be held on Saturday, March 14 at 11:00 am at Heron Point’s Wesley Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Wounded Warriors Project or Tunnel to Towers Foundation in Judy’s memory.
