Joni Marie Sams

Kent Island socialite, Joni Marie Sams passed away on September 18th, 2024 surrounded by her family. Born in Augusta, Georgia September 10,1945 moving shortly thereafter to Florida where most of her childhood memories were from. She was a very proud Navy wife and enjoyed the traveling that came with it. Her most loved hobby was Bowling and she excelled at it for decades. She coached in her later years and made a lifetime of friends from the Bowling communities she was a member of. Midlife was her Horse phase in Virginia, while fun, they are a lot of work so the farm was sold once her nest was empty. In her later years she moved to Florida and had a short stint in North Carolina, Maryland was not her first choice but once she made the move to Kent Island she knew she was HOME and LOVED where she lived. Most recently Joni was known for her work at The "O" Coastal style Boutique located on the Kent Narrows. It was her favorite job and she so loved her regulars that would come in only when they knew she was working. Joni's honesty in her work made her a great sales person, her quick wit, generosity and genuine smile made her the best friend. If asked she would say her greatest accomplishment were her girls Joey, Robyn & Julie. Her girls gave her a membership to the Kent Island Yacht Club for a birthday present after she stopped bowling and the yacht club community took her in and made her their own! Her best days were volunteering during events and dressing up to play the part of whatever event was themed. Joni was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her, she was always up for lunch or dinner at her favorite spots on shore and of course tagging herself there on Facebook! She loved her life on Kent Island and will be missed by so many! She believed with certainty that we will all meet again. Death is not the end but a continuation of our journey, so this is not goodbye, but until we meet again! Joni is survived by her brother, Julian Deal, Julie, Bobby & Robbie Cary of Romancoke Md, Robyn & Bruce Noble of the Villages Fla, Brenda & Joey Sams of Va Beach. Grandchildren Orie Morgan & Daniel Colbert. Preceded by Zachary & Dustin Jones.
