JoAnn M. Milczakowski

JoAnn Miriam (Pissott) Milczakowski of Centreville, MD passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Compass Regional Hospice, Centreville, MD, on Friday, June 12, 2026. She was 90 years old. Born July 17, 1935 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, JoAnn was the daughter of the late Frederick Aloysius and Mary Isabelle (Lampman) Pissott. She was always very fond of her high school, Elmer L. Meyers in Wilkes-Barre, PA, where she graduated in 1953. On January 30, 1955 at age 19, she married John Milczakowski from Pringle, PA. They then moved to the Washington DC area where she worked for the Marriott Corporation in the restaurant business for over 35 years while John worked as a baker at Heidi Bakery. JoAnn and John were salt of the earth people – hardworking, reliable, and down-to-earth. While living in Landover Hills, MD during her working years, JoAnn spent many an evening laughing and playing Scrabble and cards with her best friend and neighbor Stella (Roberts) Oakes. She also enjoyed bowling with friends, and she and John would also occasionally trip the dance floor fantastic to polkas at Blob’s Park. JoAnn and John moved to the beautiful senior community ‘Symphony Village’ in Centreville, MD in 2004. She and John enjoyed their retirement years there as she often played Mahjong and card games at the clubhouse with the new friends she acquired. As for other past-times, JoAnn took a great liking to her iPad for word games, puzzles, and watching movies. JoAnn was a big sports fan, especially football, and especially the Dallas Cowboys. She and her son-in-law Stephen, a lifelong Washington Redskins fan, would poke fun at each other about the ups and downs of their respective teams. JoAnn was a very outgoing person and loved her family with her granddaughter being the “love of her life”. JoAnn was predeceased by John, her husband of 52 years, who passed in 2007. She is survived by a daughter, Donna Lashick and her husband, Stephen of Bowie, MD. JoAnn deeply cherished her sister, Ann L. (Pissott) Duval of Richmond, VA, her brother Donald S. Pissott of Hunlock Creek, PA, and granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Lashick of Bowie, MD as well as a long list of cherished nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart. JoAnn was also predeceased by her brother Frederick J. Pissott; sisters-in-law Evelyn Gepert, Mary Walko, Ana Honko, and Kate Smith; and brothers-in-law Nicholas Milczakowski, Pete Mills, and Vasyl Milczakowski.
