Ms. Jeanne Kelly Foster

Jeanne Winifred Kelly Foster, 90, of Oxford, MD died May 30, 2012 at Memorial Hospital, Easton, MD. She was born December 1921 in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of the late Clement T. Kelly and Winifred Glathart Kelly. She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years Ret. Col. James B. Foster Jr. Jeanne attended St Mary of the Springs High School in Columbus and graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in Commerce. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority and the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. She had a 39 year career with the Federal Government working in Detroit, Columbus, Washington, DC, St Louis, and Boston. At the time of her retirement in 1982, she was the Acting Regional Director of OPM for the NE Area. Upon retirement, she moved to Oxford where she spent the last 30 years. Jeanne was active in many community organizations. She was the past President and Board Member at the Oxford Community Center and the Oxford Museum. She volunteered at the Oxford Library, Talbot County Historical Society, the Academy for the Arts and St Peter and Paul Parish. She was a member of the Tred Avon Yacht Club and the General Perry Benson Chapter of the DAR. Jeanne was the Founder of the Oxford Fall Ice Cream Social. She was a board member of the Doug Hanks Preservation Committee and a 2011 recipient of the Hanks Preservation Award for her contributions to the Town of Oxford and its’ history. Jeanne was an avid bridge player, belonging to clubs in Oxford and Easton. She loved her dogs and adopted several from the Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network. She is survived by her loving family Rachel Reinmann Melo of Tiverton, RI; Peter Reinmann of Bel Air, MD; Harriet Foster Long of Washington DC; LTC James B. Foster III of Oxford; grandchildren Manuel and Matthew Melo, and Hunter and Elizabeth Long. She was preceded in death by her sister Mary Kelly Reinmann. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Rt. 50, Easton, MD on June 2 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Marion, Ohio.
