James "Kevin" Fitzpatrick

James “Kevin” Fitzpatrick, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home in Easton, Maryland on February 20, 2024. Kevin was born on April 11, 1936 in Washington, DC the son of James and Julia Fitzpatrick who had earlier immigrated from Galway and Limerick, Ireland. He was the second of five children. He was raised in Washington, DC and Silver Spring, MD and attended St. Gabriel’s Catholic School and Gonzaga High School before graduating from Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, MD. He attended Montgomery College and graduated from The American University in Washington, DC. Kevin spent 3 years in the US ARMY serving proudly in Massachusetts and Alaska. Kevin began his career in the federal government, working in the CIA and Pentagon during the Johnson and Nixon Administrations. He spent over 6 years working in the situation room of the White House before joining the Justice Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). While at the DEA he was instrumental in opening the El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC) and then he traveled and inspected DEA operations around the world. Kevin is survived by his wife, Berit Fitzpatrick of 35 years, as well as four sons, Kevin Michael (wife, Cindy), Brian (wife, Ginger), Sean (wife, Jill), Brendan (wife, Eileen), three stepchildren Craig Connor (wife, Marina), Jennifer Connor (Earl Barber), and Natalie Perez (Iric Wexler) and 15 grandchildren. Caitlin, Maggie, Julia Cecile, Emma Kate, Eoin, Ryan, Brady, Kathleen, Julia Claire, Norah, Rebecca, Sofia, Isabella, Christian and Steven. Kevin is also survived by his sisters, Eileen Moore (husband, Wes) and Kathleen Daly (husband, Tim) and brother John Fitzpatrick and predeceased by his parents James and Julia Fitzpatrick and sister Mary Thompson. After retiring in l999 he spent 20 years in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and Stuart, Fl prior to returning to Maryland to settle in Easton. Kevin loved watching sports, football, baseball, basketball and boxing and especially loved the Maryland “Terps”. He also coached CYO basketball for his sons and enjoyed being involved in their sports and schooling. He was an avid reader of many varied topics and books and followed national and international affairs. He was also an avid golfer during his years in the Outer Banks, had many friends, and was actively involved with the Knights of Columbus in Kitty Hawk, NC. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 11 am at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 1210 S. Washington St., Easton, MD. Interment, with military honors, will follow at the Church columbarium.
