Guy Billings Sr.

A Funeral Liturgy for Guy Billings, Sr., of Trappe, will be celebrated at Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Easton, on Thursday, December 9, 2004 at 10:00 AM. Mr. Billings died at The Memorial Hospital at Easton, MD on Friday, December 3, 2004. He was 83. Born in Hartford, CT, March 9, 1921, he was the son of the late Forest E. and Emma Guy Billings. After graduating from Loomis School in Connecticut, he attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1943. He joined the U. S. Navy on March 1, 1943 and served on the USS Colahan (DD658) as a Deck and Engineering Officer. Following his release from active duty in 1945, at which time he transferred to the inactive Naval Reserve, he was employed by Deloval Steam Turbine Co. in Trenton, N.J. as a mechanical engineer. In March of 1951, he was recalled to active duty for the Korean Conflict. He served as an Inspector of Naval Material in Reading, PA until his discharge March 15, 1954 with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He was then associated with the Avco-Lycoming Engines, which is now Textron, in their Reading, PA office and then in Stratford, CT facility from which he retired on August 31, 1987. A resident of Talbot County since 1989, he was a member of Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Easton and a past member and Commodore of the Milford Yacht Club in Milford, CT. He enjoyed boating and fishing. His first wife, the former Norma Jean Mosher, is deceased. Mr. Billings is survived by his wife, the former Shirley M. Wright whom he married April 15, 1966; three sons, Dana F. Billings of Maui, Hawaii, Guy Billings, II and David S. Billings, both of Easton and two grandchildren, David S. Billings, Jr. and Samantha K. Billings. Another son, Rodney Guy Billings, died August 30, 1974. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Easton. Friends may call on Wednesday, Dec. 8th, for 6 – 8 P.M. at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Easton. Memorial donations may be made to Sts.
