Eula Beatrice Brown

Eula Beatrice Brown, lovingly known as Mom Bea and Ms. Bea was born on December 19, 1928 in Barnesville, North Carolina to Fred Smith and Emma Reaves Smith. She went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday June 10, 2010 with her son Clifton by her side. Mom Bea fought a good fight until the very end. At an early age she relocated to Salisbury, MD and found employment as a head cook at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, MD, retiring with 25 years if service. After retirement she worked for 5 years at Wicomico County Detention Center, Salisbury, MD. The inmates said that Ms. Bea was more the warden then the cook that she was hired to be. While in Salisbury, Ms. Bea joined The House of Deliverance under Bishop George Copeland and was a dedicated member there. Later she joined Higher Hope Temple, Salisbury, MD under the leadership of Elder Emmanuel Baker. There she was known as Mother Brown. She remained a faithful member until she moved to Pondtown, MD to live with her daughter, Louise in 2005. In 2005, Ms Bea joined Mt. Olive AME Church, under the pastorate of Rev. Sheridan Knight. She attended church regularly until her health failed. On September 6, 2009, Ms. Bea was stricken with a stroke on her left side. At that time the doctors said that she was brain dead and that she would only live 3 days. She was moved to a Hospice Center in Centreville, MD to die. But God had the final say and he allowed the family to have Mom Bea for another 9 months. Chester River Manor, Chestertown, MD became her residence. Her son, Clifton came to the nursing facility many nights to read the Bible to her. She enjoyed this and looked forward to him reading. While Clifton would be reading, Mom Bea would be reciting the verses before he could even finish. This gave her great pleasure. Her favorite hymn was, “If it had not been for the Lord on my side, where would I be?” Ms. Bea loved gardening, ceramics, “The Price is Right”, “Jeopardy” and the Home and Garden Channel. She also loved her pets, the cats Goldie and Tinkerbell and the dog, Lil Max. She leaves to cherish her memory 4 daughters, Ella Louise Hackett, Pondtown, MD; Patricia Wise, Chestertown, MD; Bobbie Jean Carmichael Nichols, South Carolina and Angela Townsend, Detroit, Michigan; 2 sons, Clifton Townsend, Jr,. Pondtown, MD, and Donovan Ridley of Manassas, VA; 1 sister, Eva Scott, North Carolina; 17 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, 3 nieces, 1 nephew and a host of cousins, church family and friends. She was predeceased in death by 1 son, Charles Carmichael on April 24, 2010.
