Emil Myers

Emil Myers of Rock Hall, MD died on February 17, 2003 at Magnolia Hall Nursing Center in Chestertown, MD. He was 88. Born in Baltimore, MD on February 6, 1915, he was the son of the late August F. and Josi Ann Ostendarp Myers. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Frederick A., George F. and Charles A. Myers. Mr. Myers was a 1932 graduate of Rock Hall High School and worked at a young age as a barber with Clifton Simns. He then worked at Myers Grocery on Main Street in Rock Hall, MD. In February of 1941 he was drafted into the U.S. Army Signal Corps.and in 1942 he was appointed Chief Clerk to Post signal Office and was soon made Head of the Cryptography Department at Ft. Meade. He served three years and seven months stateside. Mr. Myers was transferred to the Southwest Pacific and served one year and three months stationed in New Guinea, South Philippines Luzou. He was honorably discharged on December 15, 1945. Returning to Rock Hall, MD, Mr. Myers returned to work at Myers Grocery Store where he worked until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of Chester Lodge #115 A.F.A.M. and obtained his 32nd Degree while in Manila, Philippines. Mr. Myers was also a member of the Scottish Rite, a Shriner in Boumi Temple, and the York Rite in Denton. He was a member of the Sgt. Preston Ashley American Legion Post #228 in Rock Hall, MD, the VFW in Millington, MD and he served on the Maryland National Bank Board. He was a devoted Redskin fan and enjoyed boating. In addition to his life long devoted friend, Helen Trew Durding of Rock Hall, MD, he is survived by two sisters, Ivah M. Strong and Margaret M. Jones both of Rock Hall, MD and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services with Masonic Service will be held on Sunday evening February 23, 2003 at 7:00 P.M. at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Route # 20 Rock Hall, MD where relatives and friends may call from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 24, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Rock Hall, MD.
