Donald Andrew Rameika

Donald Andrew Rameika of Sudlersville, MD died at his home surrounded by his family on November 18, 2023. He was 76. He was born on November 26, 1946, in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of the late Anthony and Julia Palones Rameika. He graduated from North Providence High School class of 1964 and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1964-1969 in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged, returned to New England, and went on to graduate from Johnson & Wales College with a BA in business management. He then met the love of his life on a blind date at a bowling alley in November of 1972, a short six months later they were married on March 9, 1973. (Thanks for setting them up Uncle Roland!) They moved to Sudlersville, MD in 1977 where they laid their roots and had and raised their family together. Mr. Rameika had a long career beginning in 1969, where he worked as a Cable Splicing Technician for New England Telephone, C & P, Bell Atlantic, which later became Verizon until his retirement in 2002. He was a Benefactor Member of the NRA, an associate life member of the Marine Corps League and the Harley’s Owners Group, and a member of Jefferson Davis American Legion Post #18 in Centreville. Most days, rain or shine, you could find him out on his Harley, notably every New Year’s Day he would take a ride, no matter the weather, to meet his son and daughter, saying “the first day of the year is how you will spend the rest of your year”. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, but most of all he loved his family. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Bob Rameika and his granddaughter, Roxanne Rameika. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marie Rameika, along with his children: Sean Rameika (Edy) of Clifton, VA, Mark Rameika (Tabitha) of Rock Hall, MD, and Melissa Smith (Adam) of Henderson, MD; 6 grandchildren, Nadine, Morgan, Nate, Jacob, Alison and Kinsley; 4 great grandchildren, Christian, Eden, Liam and Lainey. A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday December 9, 2023 at 12:00 pm at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Road Chestertown, MD where relatives and friends are invited to share a story or memory.
