Dennis Anderson Fortney

Dennis Anderson Fortney, beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on July 24, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on May 12, 1947, in Akron, Ohio, the son of Ernest and Leanoir Fortney. He was educated at Saint Mary's and Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron before graduating from Miami University of Ohio in 1969. Following his education, Denny proudly served in the United States Army. A Vietnam era veteran, he was stationed in Alaska, a state he often returned to on fishing trips later in his life. Following his military service, Denny opened Mommo's, a local bar and grill establishment in St. Mary’s, Ohio that quickly became a favorite gathering place in the community. His engaging personality and ability to make friends with everyone around him that made Mommo’s a success, eventually led him to a professional career in real estate and development. Real estate became more than a profession for Denny—it became the foundation for a life that took him to multiple cities throughout the country. It was through real estate that he met his wife, Lori Woods Fortney. Together, they not only built successful careers, but also a life and a marriage filled with shared experiences and many happy memories. While Denny was accomplished in his professional life, one of his greatest passions was golf. He loved the game and the time spent on the course, where competition, camaraderie, and friendship came together, especially in his golfing communities in Charleston, SC and Queenstown, MD. Denny will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Lori; his siblings, Ernie Fortney, Tim Fortney, Terri Woods Batten, and Denny Woods (Lennie); and his nieces and nephews, Shawna Beresford (Harry), Shane Fortney (Brit), Jay Batten (Alicia), Travis Batten (Amanda), Haylie Garves (Andy), Sara Woods, and Jacqueline Woods Trahar (Noah). He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Leanoir & Ernest Fortney, sister Rebecca Fortney, and niece Heather Fortney. Denny leaves behind a legacy built through family, friends, and the many lives he touched, that we should strive to fill our lives with cheerfulness, enjoyment, and laughter. Please join us for a celebration of Denny's life at the pavilion at Queenstown Harbor, 310 Links Lane, Queenstown, MD 21658, on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Come as you are—even if you're fresh off the course. Bring your favorite stories, memories, and smiles as we celebrate a life well lived and the man who meant so much to so many. Denny's greatest joys in life were his family and the game of golf.
