Dana A. Sweet

Dana Anthony Sweet, 49, passed away unexpectedly on September 8, 2012, at his home in Trappe, MD. Dana was born in Connellsville, PA, on October 19, 1962. He was the son of William Sweet and Arlene Ringer Sweet of Bar Harbor, ME. He moved as an infant with his family to Bar Harbor where his father accepted a teaching position at Bar Harbor High School and his mother accepted a position as a registered nurse at Mount Desert Island Hospital. Dana graduated from Mount Desert Island High School in 1981. He applied to and was accepted at Marine Engineers Beneficial Association/Calhoun School in Baltimore Maryland. There he learned the trade of operating ocean going vessels. As a cadet, he crossed the Equator for the first time. Working summers on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, he met his future wife, Carole Redden. After graduating in 1986, while waiting to ship out, he and Carole worked for his brother, William, in Boston MA. Finally shipping out, they moved to Trappe, MD, to be near Carole's family. He sailed the seven seas on tankers, container ships, and a stint at Diego Garcia with United States Navy prepositioning cargo ships. He later acquired a health condition that forced him ashore. Rather than change careers, he began teaching a new generation of marine engineers at the Calhoun MEBA School of Engineering located in Easton, MD. Dana was the current President of Calhoun Alumni Association. His interests in life included motorcycles, golfing, cars, cooking, and hunting. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Carole; her parents, Marvin and Etta; sister, Teresa, and her husband David and children Andrea and Rachel; his brother, William and wife Kendra; his brother, Lawrence and wife Tracy; and his sister, Marcella and her children Dylan and Ella. A celebration of Dana’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2012, at the Calhoun MEBA Engineering School, 27050 St. Michaels Road, in Easton.
