Corey Ryan Johnston, age 37, passed away on May 29, 2026. Born on January 13, 1989, in Silver Spring, Maryland, Corey spent his childhood and formative years in Laurel, Elkridge, and Chestertown, Maryland, places that helped shape the compassionate, creative, and hardworking man he became. Corey was the beloved son of Stephanie L. Johnston and the cherished grandson of Sylvia and Joseph Johnston. He was deeply loved by his family and friends, who will forever remember his kind heart, quick wit, and unwavering loyalty. The greatest love of Corey’s life was Brooke Amos. The two met in Salisbury, Maryland, and began their journey together on January 13, 2010. Over the years, Brooke became not only his girlfriend but also his soulmate, best friend, confidante, and constant companion. Their bond was one built on love, friendship, and devotion. Corey also lovingly embraced Brooke’s daughter, Iris Merson, as an important part of his life and family. Corey was homeschooled through a college-level curriculum and graduated from The American School. Pursuing his passion for music and sound, he later graduated from Sheffield Institute for the Recording Arts. His education led him into a career in sound engineering, where he worked with bands and helped bring music to life through his technical expertise and creative ear. In addition to his work in audio production, Corey was skilled in home restoration projects, taking pride in rebuilding and improving homes with the same dedication and attention to detail that he applied to every aspect of his life. While living in Harrisburg, he met Sara. Over the next eight years, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. He was the love of her life and together they made many treasured memories. Through Sara he discovered new places and met many wonderful people, who quickly came to appreciate his kindness and genuine sprit. She will always hold a special place in our families hearts. A gifted and creative individual, Corey had a lifelong passion for writing songs and creating music. He found joy and freedom in skateboarding, loved playing baseball, and possessed a natural talent for working with computers and technology. Whether he was composing a song, helping a friend solve a technical problem, or tackling a restoration project, Corey approached life with enthusiasm, intelligence, and determination. Those who knew Corey will remember his creativity, his generosity, his sense of humor, and the deep love he shared with those closest to him. His legacy lives on in the music he created, the lives he touched, and the memories he leaves behind. Corey will be profoundly missed by his mother, Stephanie L. Johnston; his beloved soulmate and best friend, Brooke Amos; his stepdaughter, Iris Merson; his aunts and uncles Jeffrey Johnston (Christine Johnston), Joseph Johnston III, James Johnston (Collette Deltuva); his cousins Michael, Katelyn, Kyle, Daniel, Alison, Jillian and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. Though his time here was far too short, Corey’s impact on the world and the hearts of those he loved will endure forever.
