Col. Jack K. Sun

Col. Jack K. Sun died on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at his residence. He was 92. Born on February 14, 1915 in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of the late Pete Klotz and Vira Maddock Sun. He graduated from Scott High School, Toledo, OH. In 1941, he was commissioned in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served for the entire duration of WWII, was an Armament Officer with the Eighth Air Force in the Europe Theater of Operations, and was program manager for two Air Force missile programs, the GAM-72 Quail a decoy carried by the B52 and the BOMBARC, an air to ground interceptor. In 1964, he retired from the Air Force with the rank of Colonel. On August 31, 1946, he married Nancy C. Lamb, who died in November of 1996. While serving in the Air Force, he graduated from the University of Maryland in 1952 with a Bachelors degree in Military Science, and then Harvard Business School in 1954 receiving a Masters degree in Business Administration in 1954. He achieved high distinction at Harvard; he was a Baker Scholar and member of the Century Club. In 1959, he graduated from the U.S. Air Force Air War College. Following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force, he worked at the Westinghouse Electric Corporation Defense and Electronics Center while living in Severna Park, MD from 1964 until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Trappe. Col. Sun was a member of the Talbot County Zoning Board of Appeals from 1996 until 2007, he chaired the Citizens Advisory Committee for the Choptank Fishing Pier Parks, he was an activist for the Trappe Route 50 Speed Awareness Zone, a member of the Isaac Walton League, Ducks Unlimited, Quail Unlimited, Talbot Retriever Club, Military Officers Association, Chartwell Country Club, and the American Legion. Col. Sun is survived by three children; Richard Alan Sun of Oakton, VA, Ellen Sun Corrie of Farfax Station, VA, and David Randall Sun of Scottsdale, AZ, and six grandchildren: Gavin Shafer Sun of SanFrancisco, CA, Darren Shafer Sun of New York City, Amanda Collett Corrie of Arlington, VA, Judson Leighton Corrie of New York City, Jennifer Marie Sun of Scottsdale, AZ, and Rebecca Charlotte Sun of Scottsdale, AZ. He is also survived by his beloved companion, Marge Campbell of Easton. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 10, 2007 at 4:00 P.M. at St. Paul’s Church in Trappe, MD, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 3936 Main Street, P.O.
