Betty Marie Cahall Cole

Betty Marie (Cahall) Cole heard the sweet whisper, “it’s time to come home,” on the morning of February 24, 2025. Born February 16, 1929, to Rufus and Eva Steele in Goldsboro, MD. Betty was the sixth child of twelve children. Betty married the love of her life, Thomas B. Cahall, on August 17, 1946, and they were blessed with five children. They made their home for several years in the close-knit community of Wye Mills. Sadly, Thomas passed away suddenly in 1964, and Betty was left to finish raising their children, which she did with great strength and grace. She later moved to Easton where she began working for C&P Telephone Co. as a telephone operator, a job she loved. She retired from the telephone company in 1989 and began working part-time at the News Center, where her coworkers affectionately called her Betty Boop, and you could find her dressed as Mrs. Santa Claus at Christmastime with Santa. Betty loved people and met so many great locals while employed there. Being blessed with a kind and giving heart, Betty always put others before herself, whether it be her children, grandchildren, or friend. Family was very important to Betty, and every holiday or occasion was celebrated with her family around her, which continuously grew every year, and she relished in each and every one. She had a special touch with babies, always able to soothe them within moments of taking them in her arms. She loved traveling, gardening, and bingo. She was an exceptional cook, and her family is trying to carry on, making some of her best dishes. Betty continued showing her care for people, and was known to just hold someone’s hand and give them comfort during her last few years while residing at Bayleigh Chase. Betty is survived by her children, Margaret Cahall, Helen Gretzinger (Bob), Thomas Cahall (Debbie), Joyce Bambary, and Linda Baker (Harry); grandchildren, Judy Vanschaik, Lisa Weaver, Michelle Bambary, Bobby Bambary, Laura Biggar, Kelly Baker, Cullen Baker, Daphne Cawley, Mande Gretzinger, Chris Crouch, Bob Crouch, and Todd Crouch; thirteen great-grandchildren with another due in March; and five great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind three sisters, Evelyn Reed of Camden, DE, Marguerite Teat of Crumpton, MD, and Carolyn Kemp of Henderson, MD, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Cahall; a great-grandson, Zachary; and eight brothers. A visitation will be held on March 4, 2025, from 5-7pm at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home in Easton, MD, 200 S. Harrison Street, Easton, MD 21601. The following day a service will take place on March 5, 2025, starting at 12pm at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home in Centreville, MD, 408 S. Liberty Street, Centreville, MD 21617. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place after the service in Chesterfield Cemetery.
