Mildred Mae Grussing

September 6, 1917 - January 28, 2022

Mildred M. Grussing, 104, of Chestertown, MD passed away on January 28, 2022 at the Compass Hospice House. Mildred was the daughter of Alice Nannie Ryan Hague, “Nannie”, and James Edgar Hague. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She brought laughter and joy to her family and friends and enjoyed spending time with everyone. After graduation, Mildred worked at the tomato cannery and shirt factory in Rock Hall, MD and Archie Lasage’s store, where she met the love of her life. On February 2, 1939, she married John F. Grussing. Mildred and her husband owned a dairy farm on Morgnec Road where they raised their four children, Nancy Hurd, John F. Grussing, Jr., George Grussing, and Jerry Grussing. Mildred worked on the farm with her husband and children while working for Park Dry Cleaners for thirty years until she retired. Our family was truly blessed to have her in our lives for so long. She was a beautiful soul with kind words for everyone she met. Mildred was a member of Bond Chapel Church in Quaker Neck where she and her husband spent many hours involved in the church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Grussing, Sr., twin sister Marjorie Hague Urie, brother Maynard Williamson Hague, and daughter-in-law Dorothy “Bunnee” Grussing. Mildred adored her family and friends. She was always more concerned for the welfare of her family more than her own well-being. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, canning, cooking, sewing, and reading. She would often read two books at a time at the age of 100. Mildred is survived by her daughter, Nancy Hurd; her sons, Johnny Grussing, Jr., George Grussing (Pat), and Jerry Grussing; nine grandchildren, Shirley, Terri, Dicky, Jesse, Bobbie Jo, Tammy, Timmy, Brian, and Kristi; eighteen great-grandchildren, Kate, Dilan, Ryan, Logan, Chelsey, Jennifer, J.D., Emily, Maura, Brant, Jordan, Tyson, Rowan, Caleb, Brianna, Kaitlyn, Krystopher, and Kamryon; five great-great-grandchildren, Macey, Jaxson, Carter, Marley, and Junie; as well as many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Compass Regional Hospice at 106 Coursevall Drive, Centreville, MD 21617. A graveside service will be held at Chester Cemetery on Monday, February 7, at 12:00 pm.
