Martin "Marty" Engle

Martin Thomas “Marty” Engle of Centreville, MD, died Saturday, June 18, 2016, at UMSMC at Chestertown. He was 83. Born in West Wyoming, PA, on December 17, 1932, he was the son of the late Martin A. and Mary Goldsworthy Engle. After graduating from West Wyoming High School, Marty studied at University of Scranton where he earned a BS Degree in Finance. Marty worked in Washington, DC, as an accountant for the Federal Government for the US Maritime Administration and then the National Science Foundation. Marty married Mollie Joyce McNamara (from Wilkes Barre, PA) on May 31, 1958. Over a period of 33 years, the couple resided in Silver Spring, MD, where they raised their family of four children. After retiring from the federal government in 1993, Marty and his wife, Mollie, moved to Centreville, MD. Marty is survived by his loving wife, Mollie Engle of Centreville, MD; children, Connie Dean (Frank, Jr.), Christopher Engle (Julie) of Hagerstown, MD, Kevin Engle (Myriam) of Reisterstown, MD, and Kenneth Engle (Lisa) of Brookeville, MD; seven grandchildren, Sean Engle (Jess), Brendan Engle, Brooke Dean, Emily Engle, Kyle Dean, Hannah Engle and Kassandra Engle; step-grandchildren and their families, Ashley Baynard, Kendall Towers and Tyler Dean; and a great-grandchild, Camden Engle. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, William and Thomas Engle. Marty was an active member of Our Mother of Sorrows/St Peter's Catholic Church where he served on the finance council for many years. In addition, he was a Eucharistic Minister. Equally important in his life, was Marty’s active involvement and leadership in the Knights of Columbus. He was Financial Secretary for the Father Bradford Council in Chestertown, MD, for eight years and was a Charter Member and Comptroller for the Father Lutz Assembly. He was one of the two founders of the John Jacob Raskob Council in Centreville, MD, where he was a Charter Member and served as the first Financial Secretary. Marty served honorably in the US Army. Marty Engle was a man of strong faith and contributed much time and work to the Knights of Columbus and his church community. He had a love for the outdoors- hunting, fishing, camping and boating. He was dedicated to his parents, was devoted to his wife and family, and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. Marty was described by many to be a very humble man who did not need any recognition for his work and accomplishments. He had a strong work ethic that was a constant throughout his life as he provided for his family, made a difference at his work place, and contributed to his church community. He will be truly missed. A visitation will be on Sunday, June 26, 2016, from 4-6pm, at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home. P.A. in Centreville. A Mass will be held on Monday, June 27, 2016, at 11am at Our Mother of Sorrows in Centreville. Burial will follow in St. Peters Cemetery in Queenstown. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to Knights of Columbus, John Jakob Raskob Council #14189, 303 Chesterfield Avenue, Centreville, MD 21617.
