Margaret Esther Kintner Bramble

Margaret K. “Marnie” Bramble, of Chestertown, MD, died on July 24, 2015, at her home near Tolchester. She was 96. The cause was congestive heart failure. Marnie was born on December 24, 1918, the eldest daughter of Mabel Wright Kintner and Floyd Johnson Kintner of Aiken, MD. She attended the Jacob Tome Institute, the Peabody Conservatory of Music, where she studied violin, and Washington College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1941. In 1942, Marnie married David Armstrong Bramble at Maxwell Field Air Base in Montgomery, AL. She was the second woman to serve on the Vestry at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, was the Choir Mother to the church’s Junior Choir, served on the Altar Guild, and was a member of the Episcopal Church Women, where she served as President, Vice-President and Secretary. She was a member of the Maryland Children’s Aid Society, helped organize Kent Family Services Agency, where she served as President, Vice-President, and Secretary until it merged into County Social Services. Mrs. Bramble served on the Advisory Committee to end segregation of public schools in Kent County in a peaceful and orderly way. She was a member of The Children’s Home Foundation of the Diocese of Easton, awarding scholarships to two-year career schools for the Eastern Shore and served as President, Vice-President, and was Scholarship Chairman for 15 years. She served on the Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital Auxiliary, was an organizing member of the “Pink Lady” volunteers, and was on the first Board of Directors of the Kent County Public Library when it was organized “before we had a building or a book.” The library’s first location was a tiny building on Lawyer’s Row in 1962. She served as the President of the Library Board until the new library building was opened in its present location. She was a member of The Old Kent Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, a charter member of the Cadwalader of Kent Questers, and The Women’s League of Washington College. She is survived by her sons, David Chaplain Bramble and his wife Holly, Alan Strong Bramble and his wife Cathy, and Mark Miller Bramble; six grandchildren, Sara Bramble Lingerman, Margaret Bramble Newell, Paul Bramble, Megan Bramble Owings, Aaron Bramble, Brad Bramble; and six great grandchildren, Tyler Lingerman, Thomas Lingerman, Zoe Bramble, Lula Bramble, Eleanor Owings, Dorsey Owings; her sister Mary Spurlin of Wilmington; and brother, Floyd J. Kintner of Baltimore. Services will be held on Monday, July 27, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Chestertown, MD. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Church Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Paul’s Parish, Kent, 7600 Sandy Bottom Road, Chestertown, MD 21620.
