Loretta Mae Kidwell

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Loretta Mae (Pyles) Kidwell on April 30, 2024, known to all as Grandma. Born into this world on January 29, 1939, in Wheeling, West Virginia, she was the only daughter of Elver and Cora Pyles. Loretta filled the lives of all who knew her with love, laughter, and warmth. Loretta is survived by her loving husband, Thomas Wayne Kidwell Sr, to whom she was wed to October 1, 1955. Their 69-year love story was filled with years of joy and happiness. They were able to endure through difficult times which forged in later years, devotion, and an unshakable bond. Her legacy lives on in her cherished children and their spouses; Thomas Kidwell Jr. (Sandra Kidwell) , Cheryl Nicholas (Larry Nicholas), Donald Kidwell, Debra Cahall (David Cahall), Pamela Parker, and Lori Chilton (Ray Chilton). Survived by her cherished grandchildren; Tonya Kidwell, Rachael Griffith, Jeremy Nicholas, Cora Grimley, Caitlin Garner, Ryan Kidwell, Taylor Matthias, Dana Cahall, John Cahall, Amber Burris, David Parker III, Gregory Parker, Tyler Chilton, and Allison Chilton. She is also survived by her brothers Gary Pyles (Ruth Pyles) and Jay Pyles (Margot Pyles) and 23 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her brother Joe Pyles, son-in-law David Parker II, and granddaughter Heather Kidwell. Loretta loved life and its simple pleasures. She was a hard-working wife and mother raising six children. She was kind and caring but also known for her touch of stubbornness. She adored her grandchildren and spoiled them rotten every chance she got. She loved cooking, canning, and making candy. She was an accomplished seamstress on her Singer Treadle Sewing Machine. She also made some of the best homemade greeting cards that so many have enjoyed receiving. Loretta was always ready for a game of cards or board games. She especially loved Skip Bo, Phase 10, Pay Day, Bargain Hunter, Upwords, Sequence Dice and a unique game she created with her granddaughter. Her playfulness and competitive spirit added a spark of excitement to every family gathering. Loretta loved and served Jehovah faithfully for many years. She lovingly left her home in Brandywine, Md and moved to Centreville, Md to care for her mother, Cora. Her love for Jehovah helped her through difficult times and strengthened her faith to carry on. Serving Jehovah was an important aspect of her life. The soothing strains of 'You Are My Sunshine' will forever remind us of Grandma, a ray of sunshine in our lives. And even though her light has dimmed, her memory and the love she embodied will guide us and keep us warm. The family will be having a memorial service on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 2pm at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
