Kathleen Lillian Krohn

Kathleen Lillian Krohn of Chestertown, MD, died Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was 67 years old. Kathy was born January 13, 1948, the daughter of the late James W. McGunnigle and Gertrude M. Dussault McGunnigle. Kathleen graduated from W. C. Mepham High School in Bellmore, NY, in 1965 and went on to further her education at Glenville State College where she graduated summa cum laude and earned her B.A. in English with a minor in Social Studies. She taught in West Virginia for several years before she and her husband moved to Maryland in 1989. In 1993, the two moved from West River in Anne Arundel County to the Eastern Shore and settled in Crumpton and later Chestertown. Kathleen began working for the General Assembly in Annapolis as a legislative aide in 1991 and retired in 2013. She was a member of Crumpton United Methodist Church, Friends of the Library in Chestertown, and the Kent County Democratic Committee. Her interests included gardening, reading, camping, traveling, music, maintaining and decorating her home, and most of all, spending time with her family and her five grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Barbara Desmond, and nephew, Troy McGunnigle. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Bob Krohn of Chestertown, MD; one son, Robert “Bobby” Krohn of Crumpton, MD; two daughters, Susan Justice (Lonnie) of Broadway, VA; Alison Woodfield (Tim) of Galesville, MD; five grandchildren, Dylan, Kaitlyn and Emily Kate Justice of Broadway, VA, and Tyler and Andrew Woodfield of Galesville, MD. She is also survived by two sisters, Maureen Groening (Don) of Belfast, ME, and Susan Condon (Jim) of Raleigh, NC; two brothers, Jim McGunnigle (Sally) of Glen Echo, MD, and Joe McGunnigle (Stephanie) of Leesburg, FL; mother-in- law, Anna Krohn of Lynbrook, NY; sister-in-law, Arleen Lemyre of Freeport, NY; and twenty nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, from 5-8 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Rd, Chestertown, MD. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 28, 2015, at 10 a.m. at Crumpton United Methodist Church, Crumpton, MD.
