John Scott

John M. Scott of Chestertown, MD, died on December 6, 2001, in Easton, Maryland. Born in Denver, CO, he was the son of the late Crawford Madden and Gertrude Olson Scott. He is the husband of Dorris Marshall Scott of Chestertown, MD, whom he married on August 25, 2001. Mr. Scott graduated from Denver High School and later attended and graduated from the University of Denver. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945. He began his career in the automobile industry with Ryder Rental Corporation before taking a position with Chrysler Corporation where he spent the majority of his career. At Chrysler he was instrumental in the creation and development of their leasing program. He had resided in 50 states during his career with Chrysler. In 1982, he retired as leasing manager for the eastern half of the United States. Mr. Scott moved to Chestertown, MD, in 1990 from Wayne, PA. He was predeceased by his first wife, Norma Vantilburg Scott, on November 20, 1998. Mr. Scott was a Hospice Volunteer and served as a Vestry Member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Church Hill, MD. He was a member of St. Andrews Society of the Eastern Shore where he was Past President, a member of Chester River Yacht and Country Club, and was an assistant coach for nine years with the Washington College baseball team. He was also involved with Habitat for Humanity in Kent County, Red Cross Disaster Relief, The Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks in Coos Bay, OR, and Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity at University of Denver. Mr. Scott enjoyed traveling and golf; he extended kindness to all he touched. In addition to his wife, Dorris M. Scott, he is survived by a brother, Crawford Scott of Denver, CO; 13 nieces; and two nephews. Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 14, 2001, at 12:00 noon at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, MD. Interment will be private.
