Jean Grosscup Harris

Jean Elizabeth Grosscup Harris of Bridgeton, NJ, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2023, surrounded by her husband and family. She was 77 years old and greatly beloved by family and friends. Born on November 22, 1945, in Salem, NJ, Jean was the daughter of the late Leon Clifton Grosscup and Bessie Sheppard Davis Grosscup. Jean earned her degree at the Goldey-Beacom School of Business and was employed as a secretary at E I Dupont de Nemours in Wilmington, DE. She also worked in the billing department at the Cumberland Insurance Group for many years. Over the past few decades, Jean was an active contributor to the family business. As a “farm girl,” Jean had many wonderful pets throughout her life, including horses, goats, dogs, and cats (she would probably count the cows and chickens too). She loved wildlife and enjoyed going on rides to the meadow and down country roads to see the deer, foxes, eagles, egrets, otters, muskrats, and turtles. Going to the beach was one of her favorite things to do and she fondly recalled vacations at the Jersey Shore. A naturally talented cook, everyone relished her amazing gifts in the kitchen with both savory dishes and baked goods. Jean generously shared her delicious food with family and friends. She was also an avid gardener who actively canned and froze the annual bounty while keeping her yard filled with beautiful flowers. Family and friends will always remember her generous spirit, readiness to laugh, interest in conversation, appreciation of nature, delight in great food and cooking, enjoyment of travel, and overall curiosity about life and other people. A lifelong Christian, Jean loved the Lord with all her heart. Jean is survived by her husband, F. Warren Harris, Sr.; children, Robin Harris, Margaret Harris, Frank Warren Harris, Jr. (Andrea), and Luke Harris (Mindy); and grandchildren Adam, Sydney, Paige, Isaiah, Arianna, Joshua, and Aliyah. In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her son, Warren Lee Harris. Jean wishes were to be remembered privately without a memorial service. Her family hopes that everyone who cared for her will find their own ways of honoring her special presence in their lives.
