Harriett Ann Lusby Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Harriett Ann Lusby of Kennedyville, MD passed away on June 29, 2021 at the age of 96 1/2 years old. Mrs. Lusby was born on October 10, 1924 to Marion Leaverton Legg and Marie Bennett Legg in Chestertown, MD. She graduated from Chestertown High School with the class of 1942. Harriett went on to work as an Oriole Shoe Store clerk and then a Naval Inspector of Ammunition at the Defense Plant in Chestertown, during World War II. In 1945 she married her husband of 64 and a half years, Edmund Pennington Lusby Sr. They worked together on the Harmony Corner Farm in Kennedyville and later at their Montgomery Ward Catalog Store in Chestertown for 17 years. She was a member of the Shrewsbury Episcopal Church and served on the Altar Guild for 54 years. Also, Harriett was a leader of the 4-H Club, president and treasurer of the Kennedyville School PTA, a member of the Homemakers, and the Ladies Auxiliary with the Fire Department in Kennedyville. Mrs. Lusby will be remembered for her love of traveling, camping, birdwatching, dancing, playing cards, and doing word searches. She also had a unique collection of stamps, salt and pepper shakers, and thimbles. She loved animals, particularly cats and birds. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son-In-law, R. George Hopkins, a brother, M. Franklin Legg Sr, and her husband, Edmund P. Lusby, Sr. She is survived by four children, Harriett L. Elburn (Carl), Linda A. Baker (Ed), Sandra M. Hopkins, Edmund P. Lusby Jr.; five grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Thursday, July 8, at 12:00 pm at Shrewsbury Episcopal Parish in Kennedyville with burial to follow in Shrewsbury Cemetery. A one-hour visitation will be held prior at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home in Chestertown from 10:00 am – 11:00 am.
