Eric Ashton Mann

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eric Mann, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, who left us at the age of 62. He passed away on Nov 20th, 2024 after a lifetime dedicated to service, kindness, and love. Eric was a man who cared deeply about his family and his work. He proudly served his country as a military doctor briefly with the Army and largely with the Public Health Service as an Ear Nose and Throat surgeon. He later contributed his expertise to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), making long lasting contributions to public health and safety. Throughout his career, he touched many lives and worked tirelessly to improve the health and well-being of others. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Eric was known for his kindness, patience, and meticulous nature. He had an unmatched attention to detail, often found using his labelmaker to organize, label, and make life run just a bit more orderly. He was a master of setting up technology to perfection, including his insistence on placing phone screen protectors on each family member’s phone to assure there were no bubbles. As a father to three children, he was a steady and loving presence, always ready for an impromptu hard conversation, offering wisdom and advice when needed. He was a devoted husband to his wife, sharing a partnership built on mutual respect, love, and laughter. As a brother, he was a true friend—always there to listen and support. Outside of work, Eric had a passion for the outdoors. He found joy in beekeeping, the quiet calm of fly-fishing, and the nurturing of his oyster garden. A lifelong reader, he also appreciated the peace of a good book, often getting lost in its pages. He had a unique sense of humor and an endearing lack of self-awareness when it came to his cringe-worthy falsetto singing voice and dance moves, which we all cherished. Eric was a man who embodied grace, strength, and generosity. His presence in our lives was a gift, and while we will miss him dearly, we find comfort knowing his legacy of love and kindness will endure. He is survived by his wife, Marianne, his three children, Cal, Harrison and Elaine, and his brother David and sisters Eileen and Jean. A memorial service will be held on April 26th, 2025 with more information to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Save the Bay foundation in his memory. May his soul rest in peace, and may we all strive to live with the same kindness and care he demonstrated every day
