June 24, 1956 - February 27, 2021
Edmund Anthony Cutts, Jr (Eddie) passed from this world to be with the Lord on February 27th at home in his beloved town Oxford, Maryland. Although Eddie was born in New York, he moved to Oxford with his parents Edmund Sr. and Marguerite Cutts as a child. Eddie's formative years were spent in the Cutts and Case boatyard learning the trade of boatbuilding and running a boatyard from his father. Eddie graduated from Saints Peter and Paul in Easton, Maryland. Although Eddie has sailed across the Atlantic, up and down the North American coasts, and worked on enhancing his craft with boatbuilders in Finland, there is no place Eddie would rather be than those three acres in Oxford where he lived and worked alongside his father and his brother building wooden boats at Cutts and Case Boatyard. Eddie didn’t just have a passion for design and engineering, he had many interests and was a constant student. He was always reading trade magazines, economics journals, engineering works, design manuals, and literary works on his passions of building, hunting, and fishing (especially in Jim Price’s secret spots). Most of all, Eddie was a student of the Lord, and was deeply spiritual, studying daily. For those of you who have had the pleasure of sharing a drink or a meal with Eddie (perhaps even his famous barbecued whole chicken) you will know that his self-declaration of "I'm just a boatbuilder from Oxford" belied his great intellect, deep passions, joy of both learning and teaching, and the occasional debate. Eddie is survived by his sister, Linda Featherman, brother, Ronnie Cutts, his daughters: Sarah Barclay Cutts, Charlotte Trippe Cutts, Sophie LaMotte Cutts, and his partner, Laddavahn Walker. If you would like to share any stories or pictures to share with the family, please send them to [email protected] Burial will be private. A Celebration of Eddie’s life will be held in June 2021.
