Charles David Haslup Sr.

Charles David Haslup, Sr., also lovingly known as “Dave” or “Nut,” 55, of Easton, MD, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2012. He fought a long and courageous battle with ALS. His wife, son, and faithful companion, Drake, were by his side. Dave was born in Baltimore, MD, on April 11, 1957. He graduated from Easton High School and continued on to receive an Associates Degree from Chesapeake College, and a Bachelor's Degree from Salisbury University. Following college, he worked in various jobs in the building industry before opening his own company, Tred Avon Building Supply. Eventually, he merged this business and created Charter Cabinetry where he worked until the fall of 2006. Dave was an avid athlete who enjoyed playing and watching all kinds of sports, including football, baseball and softball, racquetball, golf, and basketball. He was also actively involved in the BPOE 1622 Elks Club and the Easton Rotary Club. He coached youth teams in soccer, basketball, and baseball for many years in the community. He also volunteered with the Waterfowl Festival for several years. Dave is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lizbeth A. Haslup (Abbott) of Easton; son, Charles D. Haslup, Jr., of Easton; sisters, Cathy Grinstead (Dave), of Newark, DE, Carol Leone (Ric), of Stevensville; aunt, Ruth Sorge of Easton; uncle, LeRoy Haslup, of Catonsville; special in-laws, Charlotte and David Bradley of Oxford; aunts, Patricia Anderson of Charleston, SC and Barbara Anderson of Cary, NC; sisters-in-law, Suzi Smith (Craig Wheeler) of Linden, NC, and Tracie Guthrie (Bob Godbout), of Salisbury; nieces, Jessica Harries (Brendan) of Macungie, PA, Megan Kieper (Greg) of Canton, MD, Carlye Guthrie of Easton, Laura Grinstead, of Newark, DE; nephews, Brooks Brittingham (Linsey), of Raleigh, NC, Jason Guthrie, of Easton, Josh Krupnick, of Cocoa, FL, and Scott Brittingham, of Denton, MD; a special core group of volunteer caregivers; many special cousins and extended family; special family friends, all of whom have been tremendously supportive to the family; and, his beloved dog, Drake. Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Katherine Haslup; a sister, Ruth Brittingham; aunts, Margaret Leigh and Ellen Haslup; and uncles, John Leigh and Robert Sorge. A funeral service will be held at Easton Church of God, 1009 N. Washington St., in Easton on Saturday, October 13, at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. The Rev. Nevin Crouse will be officiating. In celebration of Dave’s love of sports, please feel free to dress to represent your favorite sports teams.
