Antonia “Toni” Davis was born on September 10, 1933 to Carroll and Amy Baxter on Kent Island, MD. She graduated from Stevensville High School in 1951 and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in music education from Western Maryland College (not to be confused with McDaniel College) in 1955. She then began teaching music at Chestertown High School. She met and married Charles Franklin Davis, and the two were happily married for 54 years. The couple enjoyed entertaining and fishing on their boat, as well as ballroom dancing. She was a very active member of Christ United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher, choir director, youth group leader, and played piano for Sunday services at the Church. She and Frank were members of the local cotillion in Chestertown. She was also a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi, a community service sorority. Toni was an avid reader and loved all kinds of music, especially church music. Toni will be remembered as a woman who loved her family dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Franklin Davis. She is survived by her children, Amy D. Chay (John) of Cockeysville, MD and Ellen D. Sperber (Ken) of Finksburg, MD; grandchildren Anna Curren (Andrew), Alexander Chay (Sofia), Natalie Chay, Kendall Sperber, and Claire Sperber; and great-grandchildren Davis Curren, Asher Curren, and Isabel Curren. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Christ UMC in Chestertown at 401 High St. Chestertown, MD 21620 or to Mercy Hospital’s Medical Oncology Center/Breast Center https://mdmercy.com/giving-and-volunteering. A two-hour visitation will be held at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home in Chestertown on Saturday, October 16, from 5-7 pm. Services will be held at Christ United Methodist Church on Sunday, October 17, at 12pm. Interment will follow at Chester Cemetery.
