Alicia Fuentes

Alicia Fuentes, 73, passed on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at Talbot Hospice House in Easton, MD. She was born on November 4, 1945 in Cuba, the daughter of Luis Enrique Rojas and Maria Luisa Guilarte. Alicia married her true love Rene Fuentes on June 7, 1969, and they made their home in Philadelphia, PA, for 15 years. They later moved to Naperville, IL, for seven years before moving back to Lansdale, PA, in 1991. She worked as a teacher’s assistant in special education in Philadelphia for many years and later in Naperville, IL. After moving back to Pennsylvania, she worked with Early Intervention through the Montgomery Intermediate Unit. In 2009, she retired from teaching and moved to Easton, MD. She loved children and enjoyed teaching special education. She loved making a difference in their lives. Her smile lit up any room and children along with adults gravitated to her enthusiastic and full of life self. Alicia was the life of the party. She was a lifelong volunteer for the Catholic Church and local nursing homes. Alicia was an accomplished cook. She enjoyed cooking Cuban food and sharing it with her family, friends, and those who were in need. Her Cuban black bean recipe and Flan could not be matched by any chef. Alicia was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. She and Rene were married for almost 50 years. Their commitment and adoration for one another was truly rare and one to admire. Prior to retirement, she was a Eucharistic Minister at Mary Mother Redeemer in North Wales, PA, and after retirement, she volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul Society where she was cherished, admired and loved by many. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Rene Fuentes; daughters, Jacqueline Alicia Gillespie (Greg) of Lancaster, PA, Annette Marie English (Craig) of St. Michaels, MD; grandchildren, Mia and Gregory Gillespie and Sophia and Connor English; and siblings, Migdalia, Migdemia, Enrique, Elva, Cachy and Liliana. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Jack Nichols English, and her parents, Luis Enrique Rojas and Maria Luisa Guilarte. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 4, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 1210 S. Washington St., in Easton. Burial will follow in Oxford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Saints Peter and Paul High School Building Fund, 7906 Ocean Gateway Easton, MD 21601.
