William E. "Bill" Hyland

William E. “Bill” Hyland Sr. of Rock Hall passed away Friday, April 30, 2010 at Chester River Hospital Center from complications of a fall. He was 68. Raised in Rock Hall he was born August 10, 1941 the son of the late, Walter “Bootie” Hyland and Mildred “Millie” Hyland Hawthorne. He graduated from Rock Hall High School Class of 1960. He served in the U. S. Coast Guard and was proud to serve his country. Bill worked many years for Baltimore Business Forms and then went on to manage PDQ Business Forms in New York. He later returned to Chestertown to be the office manager of Wisco Envelope Company, then retiring due to ill health. Bill played and loved sports, he particularly enjoyed golf and watching all sports on TV. He was a member of Sgt. Preston Ashley American Legion, past Commander, Chestertown Elks #2474, past exulted ruler and former member of Chester River Yacht and Country Club. He was a faithful member of Rock Hall Church of God. Bill’s last residence was in the Rock Hall Senior Apartments where he met many friends among them a special friend and caring person, Nancy Thomas. Surviving him are two sons, William E. “Eddie” Hyland Jr. of Tampa, Florida, and Michael “Scott” Hyland and his wife, Tammy, of Worton, Maryland; three granddaughters, Venesa Hyland of New York, Jillian and Lindsay Hyland of Worton; one brother, John “Buddy” Hyland and wife, Barbara of Chestertown; two nephews, John Hyland of Chestertown and Greg Hyland of Millington; one niece, Tracie Davis of Salisbury. Also surviving are three step children, Richard Newsome, Todd “Greg” Newsome of Chestertown and Debbie N. Legg and her husband Robert of Still Pond; two step granddaughters, Morgan and Spencer. He is also survived by his first wife, Carolyn Simns of Rock Hall, who was his care-giver to the end. His second wife, Benita Spry Hyland preceded him in death in 2001. A memorial service will be held in celebration of his life at the Rock Hall Church of God on Wednesday, May 5th at 5 p.m. A reception will follow at the Sgt. Preston Ashley American Legion in Rock Hall. Interment will be private for the family.
