William George Sherwood, Jr.

After 67 short circuits around the sun, William George Sherwood, Jr., was called home on September 10, 2015, and oh what a ride it was! George was born on June 20, 1948, to the late Nettie Jones (Betty) and William George Sherwood, Sr. He graduated from Centreville High School in 1966. Shortly after graduation, George was drafted into the United States Army where he served in Germany and Panama before being discharged in 1974. George married the love of his life, Ellen Stichberry (Lee), on April 12, 1975. He worked many odd and end jobs until landing a job with Southern States Talbot Petroleum. In 2014, George retired from Southern States Talbot Petroleum to enjoy time with his family and friends. At the time of death, George was presently working for Preston Ford Black Frog Ops. George was an active member of Tuckahoe Steam and Gas Association where he was dubbed the Hamburger King! He also belonged to Eastern Shore Arms Collectors Association and the Centreville American Legion. He was also a member of the Jolly Circle Horse Club. George enjoyed going to gun shows, flea markets, antique stores, and watching his munchkins! He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ellen; stepson John Stichberry, Jr. (Dorothy); grandchildren, Jennifer Grubbs (Chris) and J.R. Stichberry (Kristen); and great-grandchildren, his special munchkins, Chloe and Katherine “Katie” Grubbs; his sister, Ida Ethel (Bucky); special friends, Rita and Dave Mielke and Pat and Jack Kirk; and many extended family and friends. George was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Robin. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home P.A, in Easton, MD. A funeral service will be held at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home P.A. in Easton, MD on Thursday, September 17, 2015, at 11 a.m. where the family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Old Spring Hill Cemetery. Pall bearers will be J.R. Stichberry, Christopher Grubbs, Dave Mielke, Will Mielke, Sam Nelson, and Thomas Nelson. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in George’s memory to be made to Tuckahoe Steam and Gas Association, Inc., P.O. Box 636, Easton, MD 21601 and Eastern Shore Arms Collectors, P.O. Box 1836, Easton, MD 21601.
