William Edward Pinder Jr.

William E. Pinder Jr., 76, of Centreville, MD, passed away on December 2, 2022. He was born on October 23, 1946, in Centreville to the late William E. and Violet (Baynard) Pinder, Sr. Bill, as he was referred to, was a Boy Scout and graduated Centreville High School in 1965 where he played soccer and baseball, lettering in both sports. Shortly after graduation, in May of 1966, he enlisted in the National Guard, completing his service in the Fall of 1971. He was a true American, loving everything about his country and what it stood for. He believed in giving to his country so much that he re-enlisted twelve years later in December of 1983, serving another eight years. While serving, he spent time in Germany and served with the National Defense Department which would later become The Department of Homeland Security. Mr. Pinder worked as a contractor with his father’s business, William E. Pinder Contracting. He took over his father’s business, employing his brother Bob and renamed it Pinder Brothers Construction where he worked for several years as a general contractor, painter, and handyman. He could fix anything and knew a little about everything surrounding the construction world. Later in his life, he finished his career working in Rock Hall, MD, as a Maintenance Engineer for Rock Hall Villas and attended Wesley Chapel. He often told his family how he would work at the annual Wesley Chapel Fish Fry and served in many capacities while there. Mr. Pinder played softball on several different leagues throughout his lifespan and enjoyed coaching his boys in little league ball. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren, and especially loved when the great-grandchildren were in his presence. He was an avid sports fan of all sports, but especially loved football and the Cincinnati Bengals. He loved playing jokes on people and experiencing Christmas time, his favorite time of year. He enjoyed older country music, bluegrass, and gospel music as well. But his favorite, was his early Saturday morning shopping excursions with his two favorite ladies, his sister, Betty, and dear friend, Ruth Pinder. No trip was complete without his Grand Slam breakfast at Denny’s. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, James “Bob” Pinder. He is survived by his children, William E. Pinder III (Bill), Brian Pinder and his wife Beth, Mark Pinder and his wife Bekki; his grandchildren, Danielle, Taylor, Lindsey, Wyatt, Trey, Abby; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Betty Brittingham; and his step-daughter, Kristy Legg. Visitation will be held on Wednesday December 7, 2022, at Fellows Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 408 S. Liberty Street in Centreville from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be on Thursday, December 8, at 11:00 at the Centreville funeral home with burial to follow with Military Honors at Chesterfield Cemetery in Centreville.
